I have to tell a family member that I cannot go to see them and I know that it is going to crush them. We havent seen each other for quite some time and I am not looking forward to telling them this. I do not want to hurt them but I just cant go for personal reasons. If you want to know what those personal reasons are just email me and I will tell you privately. Any answers are welcome.

I of course would tell them the personal reason but I do not want to tell on here. The reason is because they come on here and I do not want them to know until I tell them. And if I put all the info on here they will know that it is me and I do not want that. That is why I said if you want a better explanation I will tell you privately.

I think that depending on the reasons that maybe you need to be honest. I think that maybe you really want to go but you feel torn. I emailed you to see if you would tell me the reasons and let me say that you need to be honest with everyone involved. Tell your family the truth that you want to go and you would really like their approval and go. Just be honest.

i don't need to know the personal reasons, but if you ever want them to trust you again, i suggest you tell the family member the reason you can't show up. vaguely saying "personal reasons" never works. just bring it to em straight up.

just explain that you have personal reasons and cannot attend because of these reasons. the sooner you do this, the better. that way it's not sudden and doesn't sound just like an excuse. and hopefully they'll understand.
