If the schoolyard bully is extorting lunch money from the other kids, should those who pay up then praise the bully as a "savior" when he refrains from beating them up?
Then what about the biblegod -- who creates a hell of everlasting torment (Matthew 13:49-50) and an arbitrary set of rules for who gets thrown in it, then says he'll "save" you from it if only you'll bow and scrape before him for all eternity. Don't theists realize that they wouldn't need "salvation" in the first place if the biblegod had simply NOT MADE HELL?!?! When my son misbehaves I may be cross with him for a bit, but I never stop loving him and would never intentionally harm one hair on his head for one SECOND, much less for ALL ETERNITY!!! Does this make me a better parent than the biblegod?
