God told abraham to kill his son to see if the he trusted the Lord enuff to do everything he was told to do. Abraham put his son on the alter and just as he was about to kill him the Lord stepped in and stopped him doing so. The Lord saw that Abramham was willing to do everything for God, even go to extremes such as killing his one and only son!!

Genesis 22 it is a very interesting story
Abraham Love his son Isaac very very much, and God wanted to know it Abraham love this very special gift from God more than he Abraham loved God?
So God told, demanded that Abraham sacrifice Isaac his son to him!
This is were it gets real interesting. Abraham took Isaac out and they took everything for a sacrifice but the ram. This had Isaac somewhat concerned. The alter made and everything ready Abraham ties up Isaac and laid him on the alter, Abraham raises the knife. (Abraham believes that even if he kills Isaac God will restore him to life) and just before he brings the knife down God stops him. A ram is tangled in the brush and Abraham sacrifices it to the Lord. God knew Abraham would have and thus Abraham loved God more.

In Genesis Abraham is directed by God to sacrafice his son Isaac.
This was a test of obediance for Abraham because Isaac was the son that he had prayed to have for a very long time.
Once God saw that Abraham was willing to offer Isaac as a sacrafice to be obedient to God, God sent an angel to stay his hand and that he not sacrafice Isaac, and provided a ram tangled up in a bush as the sacrafice.
Many people and theologians say this "test of obediance" is a foretelling of the sacrafice of Jesus Christ. That while God loved Abraham enough not to follow through with allowing him to sacrafice Issac, that he did love us all enough to do what he wouldnt allow man to do, to give his only son.

In Genesis 22 starting with vs 2. It starts that God was tempting (testing) Abraham.
By Genesis 22:11 You see where God had told Abraham to not hurt his son.
In between these verses NOTICE that Isaac (Abe's son) did NOT fight. But went willingly.

Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Abraham and Sarah had been trying to conceive for years and finally Sarah gave birth to Isaac. Abraham was then "tested" by G-d and asked to sacrifice Isaac. He was all ready to do it, but then G-d said it was no longer necessary. I think it's in Genesis 22:1-2

Abraham was told to kill his son, Isaac, as an offering to God. Abraham took Isaac to a mountain to do this and God told Abraham to stop, Abraham had proven his loyalty to and fear of God, and therefore God had Abraham sacrifice a goat as an offering instead. It is in Genesis

And he was so faithful to God that when he raised the knife to kill him, the Lord stopped him and said look over in the bushes you will find a ram snared. Sacrifice him instead of your son.
