Most of them get them from puppy mills where they breed lots of dogs in horrible conditions to sell to people and pet stores. Most of the dogs are sick and unhealthy anyway and sometimes their even inbreed to produce a certain eye color or coat type.I would never buy a dog from a pet store.

The way pet store get there dog is from Brokers. The Brokers get there dogs from puppy mills, back yard breeders pitty much any body that will sell him puppys. He pays the breeder for the puppys then the Brokers mark up the price and sells them to the pet stores. Then the pet stores mark up the price so they can make money off of them too. Then the person buys them.

Most petstores get them from puppy mills. I have even found "puppy brokers" I about shi*. They sit on the phone with puppy mills and petstores and get their greedy hands in on the money. Its absolutely sick!!! Most of the time these are more expensive and the least healthy of pets anywhere. Mis treated and ignored at birth.
We have had several puppy mill dogs come through our program and they are the saddest to rehabilitate.
Every Petsmart works with a rescue organization to help find homeless pets forever homes usually at cost. We aren't trying to make money off of the lives of defenseless animals.

Pet stores mostly get puppies from puppy mills. that is why no respectable pet store will sell dogs or cats.
I own a pet store and we do not sell dogs or cats.

Most petstores do get from puppy mills, but there are a select few that are good enough to get them from great breeders- but those are far between!

I believe in pet adoption, not buying from pet stores. I guess I don't know the answer to your question.
