How do they deal with stress. Make sure you follow up on some references. This is your child so pry as much as you want. Do they drink, smoke, etc. What is their personal life like. Anything that comes to mind. People can hide things but if you throw them off guard with something like what would you do if....so and so did this...you may be able to see where they are at.
Good luck!

Certifications?
Food Program?
Are toys disinfected regularly?? (kids get sick alot in daycare)
Price?
Outdoor time?
Learning programs?
How often they'll be planted in front of the TV?
Pop in visits ok? (really it doesn't matter, I'd recommend stopping when possible just to check)
If it is a home daycare do they have anything like guns? (I had a lady tell me once that they were under the bed and even she couldn't get to them *she was over 300lbs...my 20lb kid can get under a bed)
If your kid has food allergies how can they handle that?
Medication policy?
Sunscreen usage, tylenol, asthma meds?? stuff like that.
Holidays that they are closed?
ANYTHING that you are concerned about don't be afraid to ask and if you feel you are being rude don't worry about it these are your children and you want to be sure they are ok.
I would HIGHLY suggest bringing your child(ren) with you because they are the best indicators of the daycare. My kids have been in a few different ones and I said I'd never put them in a home daycare but they in one now and it's the happiest they've ever been, I think the lady seems kinda rude to me but the kids love her. Good Luck!!!

How do they discipline the children?
Do you have any references I could call?
How long have you been doing this?
Why did you start?
How many children do you watch at any given time?
Are you licensed thru the state?
Do you have any pets in the home?
Will anybody else be in the house with you?
Do you have a pool?
Do you know CPR?
Will, at any time, you be removing the children from the home?
What would you do in this situation (fill in with your own scenario)?
How do you usually schedule out your day?
What activities will you be doing with the kids?
Will you provide food or do I have to pack a breakfast / lunch?
That's all I can think of right now. =)

Ask them what their experience is, what their outlook on discipline is, about their homelife, also make them do a working interview with your child to see if the child even likes this person.

be sure to ask for references and if nothing else, ask for previous people's kids they have worked for so you can call them to get an idea of wha the person is like with kids.
