I've been working out a lot lately and started using weights on my chest for sit-ups and crunches. I've now gained about an inch on my waist. My abs do feel very firm, but I'd like my waist to be smaller, am I doing something wrong? I'm also on a low calorie diet, but the only place I have lost inches is off my hips and thighs. My waist and chest area have gained an inch.

Help anyone.

Yes, but Mr UrNOTfunny, muscle is supposed to be more compact than fat and therefore, when losing fat, you would presumably look slimmer.

How stupid are you : P

No, I don't really eat rice or beer, but thanks for the tip as I will avoid these foods.

Sounds like you are giving a lot of work to your abs and they are responding by building up. I'd suggest backing off the crunches with weights and do some more aerobic exercise, such as running, swimming, biking, etc. Those will burn calories, strengthen your heart and improve your overall tone. Swimming is especially good for overall body tone.

Strong, well-defined abs are great if that's what you want. But that doesn't look like your ticket to a slimmer waist.

its good to gain muscles and sometimes the outcome is gaining inches and weight but if your body is hard and firm thats good, just remember fat weighs less than muscle so I say good job keep it up.

Because the exercises you're doing are designed to increase muscle mass (especially with the weights). Why not try more aerobic exercises, which generally tend to make people more slim and fit? How stupid are you?

yes you're doing something wrong... the weights are going to build muscle... not slim down... lose the weights and continue as before... with higher repetitions...
