I was given a religious tract to read. The tract discribed to me that I am a sinner if I am not "saved". It went on to give a prayer that if I repeat, would allow me to have a "personal relationship" with Christ, thus become "saved". Is this possible? I have seen/heard this many times. EITHER IT'S TRUE OR NOT TRUE. Please, no personal opinions. I'm looking for proof from the Bible, as I believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God. Please give me references from the Bible that I can study. Thank you.

Many people have been told that "believing on Jesus" is a single act and that our faith does not have to be strong enough to prompt obedience. But the Bible disagrees. Jesus did not say that people who begin the Christian course are saved. Instead, he said: "He that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved." (Matthew 10:22) The Bible likens our Christian course to a race, with salvation being the prize at its end. And it urges: "Run in such a way that you may attain it."—1 Corinthians 9:24.

Thus, "accepting Christ" involves far more than just accepting the blessings that Jesus' superlative sacrifice offers. Obedience is required. The apostle Peter says that judgment starts "with the house of God," and adds: "Now if it starts first with us, what will the end be of those who are not obedient to the good news of God?" (1 Peter 4:17) So we must do more than simply hear and believe. The Bible says that we must "become doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving [ourselves] with false reasoning."—James 1:22.

Yes, it is true.

Start with the two below. Read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in the Bible, and you will find more.

John 14:6: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

John 3:16: God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him might not perish but have everlasting life.

Verbalizing a prayer does nothing for the soul. Your ego may be satisfied by executing the mantra. Your ego will certainly be left behind after your life ends. What you need is to get in touch with your soul and repent in earnest. Think of it as a parent telling their kid to 'Say you're sorry' to another kid. It only APPEARS to be the construct of forgiveness in action. This is only a social grace, like acknowledging a sneeze with a form of 'God bless you'.
You need to make it right, not recite written prayers.

There is no magical formulas! Honesty is the key.

When jesus was crucified, there were two men crucified along with him. Both men had done wrong. One of him said:
"Are you not son of God? save yourself and save us!"
But the other man answered to the guy: " Dont you fear God?
for we recieve just punishment for what we have done, but he (Jesus) did nothing wrong!" then he also looked at Jesus and said: "Remember me when your kingdom comes" Jesus answered: " Today you shall be with me in heaven."
Luke: chapter 23 verses 39 to 43.

The man who recognised himself as a lost sinner, knew he was going to die very soon, he accepted his fate, and confessed he believed in Jesus when he asked Jesus to remember him.

If you are looking for answers about Jesus:
Read John 14 The whole chapter.
God bless you.

Jesus specifically told his apostles to teach and to baptize. He never told them to go out and have everyone recite "the sinner's prayer".

Mat 28:18 And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth.
Mat 28:19 Going therefore, teach ye all nations: baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

Jesus is God, and in scripture, he prescribes baptism. He says this often ... not once, not twice, but three times ... plus Jesus even accepts baptism for himself.

Where do we find Jesus endorsing the "sinner's prayer" in any scripture?

The "sinner's prayer" is a tradition of men, not of God. I wouldn't bet my eternal salvation, or the salvation of my loved ones on it.

There's no substitute for water baptism, using the Trinitarian formula, as stated in Matthew, above.

Romans 10:9-10
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. [10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (King James Version)

Romans 10:9-10
For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. (New Living Translation)

Simple as that.

God Bless.
