Sounds like you should have neither cats nor children.

You could spray a mist of water on your cat. But, you really should not have a cat. You don't sound very loving or caring.

If you think the way to train children is to smack them, please, please don't have children. If you have trouble with exercising patience, you are at risk for becoming a child abuser. So, if you don't want the government to take your children away, don't have them.

If you already have children, get help with your problem for the sake of the children.

At least you can admit you have a problem. It's very cruel to take out your frustrations on anybody physically. If you need to smack something, smack a pillow, stomp on the floor or better yet, count to 10. Quiet cats are not good cats and cats that run amok are not bad cats. They are simply cats. If you think that smacking your cat will somehow get them to do what you want, you're sadly mistaken. You will bring out the best in your cat with love, patience, and more love. Negative reinforcement doesn't work. Punishment doesn't work. Reasoning with a cat doesn't work. To encourage the behavior you want, you need to give your cat positive reinforcement or an incentive. That could be a treat, affection, playtime, praise, hugs, kisses and more love. You cannot reason with a cat. It's an animal. Unless you catch a cat "in the act" of bad behavior, there is absolutely nothing you can do to discourage or stop that behavior. If you do catch your cat in the act, you should never go further than a verbal scolding or a squirt from a water bottle. Cats are smart. They learn quickly what you like and don't like. And when you shower your cat with love when they are good, you will find them being good more often than not. But you have to understand the nature of a cat and accept it. It's normal for cats to get the "freakies" once in a while It's normal for cats to be curious and climb on counters. It's normal for cats to scratch. And just like people, cats can get into bad moods and have lapses in judgment. Which would incent YOU more? Avoiding a smack whenever you make a mistake? Or getting a great reward and feeling appreciated whenever you do something good? Think about it? What makes you work hard in school or your career? The grade? The money? The sense of pride? All of the above? Do you work hard to avoid getting attacked by your boss or teacher? Of course not! Could you imagine if you got physically punished everytime you made a mistake at work or school?

If you seriously believe you have have a problem controlling your temper and patience where you become physically aggressive, you should probably not have a cat. They are not the pet for everyone. If you need an obedient animal you should consider a dog. There are several famous quotations that are very fitting of cats and while endearing to "cat people", others just don't "get it":

Dogs come when they're called; cats take a message and get back to you.

Dogs have owners; cats have staff.

Dogs obey; cats command.

In a cat's eyes, all things belong to cats.

Thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as gods. Cats have never forgotten this.

There are many intelligent species in the universe. They are all owned by cats.

Dogs believe they are human. Cats believe they are God.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

How you behave toward cats determines your status in Heaven.

Does the smacking work? Cats don't respond well to punishment. The best way to deal with cat misbehavior is distraction and rewarding good behavior
Get a book called Outwitting Cats. It will show you how to have good kitties with out smacking.
Children shouldn't be smacked either.
How much amuck can a couple of cats run?

Hitting smackin a pet or human is physical abuse.I think if you have the need to hit a cat you should not own a cat or child for that matter.Maybe someone should try having no patience with you and smack you see how you like it!

you should NEVER hit or abuse an animal, animals aren't kids so they should not be disciplined like they would be if they were human, you don't know a d a m n thing about cats and their behavior you know about CHILD behavior CATS are NOT CHILDREN THEY ARE NOT HUMAN don't own anymore cats if you are so mentally off. give them to someone else cause if you don't then one day someone will call the police and you will be banned from owning an animal anyway so save the cats and yourself the trouble, and if this is a joke then forgive me for taking this so seriously its just that my mom did the same thing to my cats and it did not do anything for their behavior except hiss at her whenever she came, they were traumatized.

Cats and children are not flesh punching bags for your foul temper. How would you feel if some big thing came at you and smacked you around? You need to get help for your temper instead of blaming cats and children for it.

Hitting your cat, like hitting your kids, causes more problems in the long run. I suggest a spray bottle set on stream. It's a much better way to discipline the cat, plus you can work out your aggressions without being cruel.

Animals require time. money and patience. If you don't have all find your cats a new home.

You can not control a cat. Cats are liberal and curious creatures that do not respond well to discipline.

Remember that they can feel pain and sense your intentions. Seriously, accept them for what they are or give them up.

That's abuse. If you are not mature enough to control yourself then I fully agree that you should be banned from having pets OR children. By the way, you might want to concentrate more on you deplorable spelling, punctuation and grammatical skills. Your posted question reads like an eight year old wrote it.

That's mean...why would you want to smack your cats (or any animal) for being playful or having an energetic personality? People get reported to the ASPCA for being cruel to animals. Maybe you should stick to fish, they are calm and quiet.
