a postal code in canada is the same as a zip code in the united states except set up different but they do the same thing. Like in canada they include number and letters but in the us it is only number.

But it is a combination of six letters and numbers, so it is much less precise. The U.S. zipcode scheme is based on nine numbers -- 12345-1234 -- which means the "+4" number can pinpoint spots down to well inside of a mile of accuracy (depending on the density of the area).
