I'm still friends with all my ex's and they are friends with me. I don't actively go and seek them out but if I run into them we have short pleasant talks. Maybe try sending him a card. If you call him out of the blue you might be putting him in an uncomfortable spot. The card is kinda mysterious too and it sends the same message in a more mysterious way. Just an idea....take it or leave it.

I don't think it is good idea, the very reason for the same is, he is ex because of some reasons which you don't like, your wish for happy birthday shows you still remember the important date, this may give him another chance to come closer or misbehave

baby girl, why? what's the reason. unless you want to get back together or you still have feeling for your ex. it's better that you don't since it will create second thought in him mind about you. if you don't want him back, then just leave it be.

Ya that's fine, it's an important event so it's an excuse to maybe start a friendly relationship.

Just let it go, don't do it. Otherwise you can't go on with your life because you'd be stuck thinking about him all the time. He probably won't call you if it's your birthday cause he's moving on.

I wouldn't - if he's in the past & ya'll haven't talked in a long time, then let it go. Also, he might see it as you trying to get back in his life . . . would you want to see him again? would he want you back? are you trying to open the door to establish regular communication & get together again? He'll question your motives & you probably should examine your reasons, as well . . .
