One long afternoon nap should be sufficient...around 11:30 til 3 or so. This is what a 1 year old would get in a daycare center. If your child just turned 1, he/she may need a very short morning snooze say around 10ish for 45 min. and then the afternoon nap would fall around 1 til 3 or so. However, it would be best to aim for the one nap in the afternoon instead to avoid bedtime struggles. Hope this helps!!

Watch the signs from your child. Is he tired by 10 or can he go until 12 or 1? Some need two naps while some are ready to drop the morning nap. My now 15 month old had about the same schedule. At 1, she was taking a nap from 10-11:30. Then again 2-4. Now she just goes from 1-3 or 4.

When you say your child is 1, has your child just turned one or is he a few months past his birthday? Reason I ask is, at least for us, it made a bid difference as far as how sleep was organized. I am a big believer in having a well rested child and kept to a pretty tight nap schedule and it worked well for us. Up until my daughter was about 13 or 14 months, she would go to bed at about 7:30 or 8:00 and get up at about 6:00 or 6:30. She'd take a nap in the morning at 10:00am and sleep until about 11:30 or 12:00. Then she'd take another nap in the afternoon at 3:00 and sleep until about 4:30 or 5:00. This routine was like clockwork and it worked great - she was happy and well rested and energetic throughout the day. But right around 13 months, every once in a while she'd only take one nap instead of two. Then by 15 months she was officially on to one nap. At first, we would give her lunch around 11:30 then put her down by noon and she'd sleep for three hours. After a few months, we were able to stretch it to give her lunch at noon and put her down by 1pm and have her sleep until 4pm. And that's where we still are now at the age of 26 months. Now that she's older she can stay up at night until about 9:00 and sleeps until 7am. It works out well because both my husband and I work, so we get to enjoy our time with her in the evening. Good luck!

First how many naps is the child taking during the day and for how long? If you are trying to get your one year old to sleep longer then I would suggest laying him down 15 minutes every night. Every night extend nap time by 15 minutes. So if you are putting your child down at 8:30 then try 8:45 one night and then 9:00pm another night. Sometimes children have their own internal nap schedule that you can't change. No wonder they tell you that your schedule revolves around the baby! GOOD LUCK!

My 1 year old has the same sleeping schedule, and goes down for a nap around 12 for about 90 minutes. Sometimes she takes another short nap around 3:30pm.
