I'm in desperate need of new clothes. Last night, my mom told me she was going to take the day off to go shopping with me, but she didn't keep her promise. She doesn't have any other plans, she's just sitting at home doing nothing. When I ask her why not, she comes up with a different silly excuse every time. She gives me very little money, and the money I do have I have to spend on food, because there's never anything in the house (she's anorexic.) When she talks to me, it's usually to criticize me or complain about something. And if she's actually complimenting me, it's always in a fake, sarcastic voice. Keep in mind, I'm a good kid. I don't know what to do.

Are there any other family members you can trust to talk to about this? Maybe your father, grandparents, an aunt or uncle? If not, you may need to go to someone else - like a friend's mom or dad, a doctor or a school counselor. What you said is really worrying, especially the bit about you not getting a lot of food because your mom is anorexic. You need another adult to step in, both to help you and your mom.
Good luck - I know this is hard, but you can get through it!

More importantly than the clothing issue is food. From what you've said, it sounds like you are possibly being neglected. I'm not out to get your mother arrested, but you may want consider contacting the local DHS [Department of Human Services] office near your home. They're in the phonebook. Neglect\abuse is a crime. Your mother's anorexia can be treated, and she may just need some help. There are all kinds of services offered to people just like you and your mom, most of which are free. Your safety, as well as your mom's is at stake here, so keep talking to your mom, and don't be afraid to ask for help.

I live in a college town with a nice second hand store who sales many very nice clothes, alot with the tags still on them, never been worn, alot of the rich people donate their clothes. Then we have two consignment shops and they have so many clothes, alot of jeans, and teenage clothes. All types of people shop their now. They prices are not very high and alot cheaper than the store. Ck your local stores, wal-mart, Kohls, Gordman, etc. They have clothes marked 85% off now if you can get someone to help you. We have churches that help!! Don't be ashamed to ask. That is what they are their for and want to do. What state do you live and how old are you?? Maybe can guide you to help like different organizations. We have free medical clinic Agape Clinic who gives out free clothes and they are very nice clothes. Check you town for one.

first of all let me say that you are doing a lot better than other people in your situation, you said "keep in mind I'm a good kid" so that means no matter what she's saying to you that you are strong enough to not let it change the way you feel about yourself. if she is anorexic like you said than she has a lot of problems and she's not happy with herself and people who aren't happy with themselves cant be happy with other people or truly happy for other people, you need to find someone you can talk to, a family member first of all. and if you don't have anyone like that find a boys and girls club, and if you don't have that look in the phone book because you really need someone to talk to. good luck and i hope everything turns out ok.

That's tough. Do you have a grandparent or trusted adult who can give you a little money for clothes. You can go to the Salvation Army, Plato's Closet or Goodwill and get name brand clothes for cheap. No one has to know where you got the clothes.

Try telling her the truth that she's always procrastinating and not spending enough time with you. She needs to be able to take care of you and tend to your needs and wants.
But if you can, you could ask your dad to bring you to a mall or somewhere else to buy clothes.

Are you old enough to get a job? Where is your father? I think you should seek some counselling.. perhaps the counsellor at your school or someone that will listen to you. You need some help.

I would go to a local church, or talk to one of your teachers about your mom. it may not make her happy but it will force her to wake up and take care of you. otherwise, if your father is still alive and you know him, you could talk to your dad. if you're over the age of 12-13, you could take your mom to court and live with your dad if he's willing. either way, you need to tell someone that your mom is not taking care of you and that you need help. good luck.
