I think 8 o'clock is a good general bedtime, but it really depends on the schedual that you have set. Some kids nap more than others and at different times. What is important is that you keep to the schedual, no matter what time he/she goes to bed. Also, have a good bedtime routine. Bath, pajamas, brush teeth, etc. That way, the child knows that bedtime is coming.

What you need to do is figure out what is best for your child - I would suggest watching him/her for a few evenings looking for "signs" of being tired - when does he/she start yawning or rubbing his/her eyes? Or just start acting cranky? If it's around the same time every night, then plan on putting him/her to bed a half an hour before then (by the time the "signs" start, the child is already overtired).
For bedtime suggestions, when my daughter was 1, she was going to bed at 6:30 PM (she would be up around 7 AM each morning and take a 2 - 3 hour nap during the day). We have increased it by 15 minute increments over the last year and a half, and now she's going to bed around 7:30 PM (she's 2 1/2 now). Hope this helps!

The child should be put to bed by 8 at night. Little children need more sleep then adults plus this gives the parents time for each other.
