This problem has not changed at all and has had no REAL resolution, many states are recognizing the lack of decision making power in Washington and have taken matters into there own hands....Georgia and Colorado and a few others have listened to the voice of the people (novel idea) and have passed laws denying public services to illegals except those that the fed. gov. still requires them to provide, as well as making it a crime to knowingly employ illegals. But no real solution will be reached until people realize a few points, first there is a difference between illegal immigrants and legal (no one is trying to take away the rights of the LEGAL immigrants), second illegal immigration cost this country billions (with a B) of dollars every year, third we don't NEED the immigration in the numbers it is happening, this argument of "they do the jobs no one else wants" is a crock first who did those jobs before and second in the fields which illegals hold the most positions the work is still being done by Americans a specific example is janitorial labor in the state of California immigrants hold only 23% of the jobs leaving 77% to the Americans, which btw held 95-100% before this major influx of immigrants from our southern neighbors so until ppl recognize the reality that mass immigration hurts our country there will be no solution as for the media they stop covering anything as soon as ppl start recognizing the truth and stop listening to the propaganda they spew....notice that the rallies were covered in a much different light than the coverage of the ppl trying to stop the mass flow, yeah when the mass demonstrations are calling for the eradication of the white man and for the return of southwestern US to Mexico no one calls them the R word but as soon as a few ppl stand up and try to protect our borders or try to point out that mass immigration is bad they throw around the racist label like its candy on Halloween. So the short answer No the problem has not gone away (despite the media's and Washington’s wish it would) and it is still a good news story just not from the angle which they wanted to show it.

The press buries it. Put immigration in your browser and see what comes up.

The law may not make it out this year, or may not make it before the elections. However, the issue is still hot.

Sensenbrenner is having a press event at 3 mountain time at the border, maybe he will say something of import. Since none of the alternatives on the table are any good, I kind of hope not, though.

The illegals organizers are planning more marches for Labor Day. They are either gluttons for punishment or think the inevitable backlash, while it may hurt the individuals here today, will further their cause in the long term public opinion sense. Fairly callous if the latter, but pretty damned stupid if the former.

It'll come back when it's time for another attempt to give these criminals amnesty.

Believe me - with Canada, Mexico, and the US working on integration, all three countries are well aware that there can be no smooth transition to open the borders and free movement until all of the illegals are given some form of legitimate status.

With plans to have the SPP (Security and Prosperity Partnership) fully in place by 2010, these criminals who are here illegally will be granted status whether the American people like it or not.

You need to realize that most of our large, city papers are owned by one or two corporations. They are liberal-driven. They will have feature articles about "Hispanics" who are making the "dream", but will leave out information about a legal American brutally attacked at the Illegal May 1 rally!

We have been watching the reporting here and the slant is not only obvious but blatant. Oh yes, the Standard Examiner also publishes a daily in Spanish. You will find that in most cities....it's money driven.

In order to get complete information, you need to cruise the internet. the Minutemen Project, Fire Coalition, the Patriot, Numbers USA, Save our State, You Don't Speak For Me, Grassfire coallition, Lou Dobbs, wehirealiens.com....are a few sites which will gather and publish information.

It's still there. The republicans will trot it out when they need something to distract americans from issues like healthcare reform and social security. Just like they've used it to distract people from the lack of evidence about WMDs and the disbanding of the units created to find Osama Bin Laden. You know, the guy that masterminded 9/11. The guy Bush claimed he wanted dead or alive.

it seems the war in Iraq and Israels war (cease fire)with Hezbollah takes prescience at this time, and rightly so.International terrorism is more important.
but the little war on the criminals coming across our southern borders still remains. While I am in no way opposed to any person from any country coming to the US if they come here via the legal route,if not they are criminals,we have laws that were put on the books to prevent this and whether you agree with them or not until they are removed from the books they are legal and should be enforced not ignored for one special country,Mexico.....As long as its against our country's laws its a criminal act.and you cant pick and choose
what laws you want to abide by and those you choose to ignore.

Illegal immigration is still a huge problem for the USA, but the crisis in the middle east has swayed media attention, if it bleeds, it leads, that's just how it is.
