That's because the drive C is currently used by your swap file which constantly changes the FAT of the drive C.
To fix, it depends on the version of Windows you are using. I know that with Windows 2000, you can do the following:
1) Click on Start and select "Run..."
2) Type "cmd" and press "Ok"
3) Enter "chkdsk /f c:"
This will say:
"Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)"
Answer "Yes" and the system will check your drive C: after rebooting while the swap file is offline.

To find Check Disk in Windows XP: click Start, My Computer. Right click the drive you wish to check, and then click Properties. Click the Tools tab. In the Error Checking section, click the Check Now button. Select "Automatically fix file system
errors." Also select "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors."
Click Start.
Run this regularly to keep your computer in tip-top shape.
Check Disk can not only check the hard drive, but can fix errors, too. But Windows cannot be running for Check Disk to do this. Check Disk will prompt you as to whether to let it run the next time you boot up. Click Yes and restart the computer (Check Disk will automatically run). Check Disk is a lengthy program and takes quite a while to run.
What do you do when ScanDisk never finishes?
If ScanDisk will not finish, try running ScanDisk in Safe mode: Turn on the computer. Listen for the Power On Self Test (POST) beep (this usually takes about 10 seconds). After you hear the beep, press the F8 key. You will see the Windows Startup Menu. Select Safe Mode and run ScanDisk.

If you have a large hard drive, it takes a while...if you have lots of bad sectors, it can take a VERY long time because it tries to read the data off the bad sectors. I would backup ASAP and get a new hard drive if this continues.
