Experience is going to be your key. Get your foot in the door and work your way up the ladder. I started as a "floater" in a daycare and worked my way up to lead teacher. There wasn't much further I could go as my director also owned the center. Check with state guidelines as to what you need to be in the adminstrative part of the childcare. With a degree you shouldn't have a problem getting your foot in the door. It may take some time to get to the position you want if you don't have any admin. experience. You could also consider going to a technical school for admin training. Some schools like Gibbs College and ECPI offer that type of training in as little as 10 months. Good luck to you!

I have the same degree. It is something you have to work toward. I also have an AAS in Early Childhood Education, so mine was a little easier. Any child care center would love to have you, esp with the credentials you will have.
Some things to look for Assiant Director, Program Coordinator
(for childcare setting)
DHHS has job listing also look in the Division of Child Development.

It would probably hard to get a job in an administrative field with an ECE degree if you do not have any admin. experience. However, some child care centers and preschools will hire an office assistant and train you. Most states require you to be Director qualified to be the Director of a school or center, so you might check to see how close you are to that. (check with your college counselor)

There is a demand for head teachers in the childcare field, In order to become an administrator you may have to work in the classroom at a child care center for at least two years. Most of the time there are job openings for Administrators.

Your school human resources office or counselling office will probably have possible job listings you should look at.
I would think you might be able to take on educational aide or perhaps pre-school teaching. You might be able to work in a group home for younger children or in a religious /sunday school program. However you're probably going to need to go for a full b.a. in psychology or education or social work to find a profession.
What made you take child development without knowing what the possible job prospects would be?

Depends on your state... in CA where I live, you can administer in a child care center with an A.S. if it is a privately owned center (like in a church). For most public (schools that receive federal funds) you need to have a B.S. The easiest way to find out is to call around to preschools in your area and ask what their requirements are for hiring.

Laila, Ok stands for Oklahoma. It is a US state and not part of the UK. Lisa, I would suggest that you do a search for "preschools your city Oklahoma" and contact some programs near you to get a realistic idea of what kinds of positions they might offer you with that credential. It probably varies a great deal. You might also want to visit some programs that accept that credential to get a better idea of the work environment.
