Probably a good choice. HDTVs are still new technology. I have one, built in 2004, a RP-LCD whose bulb has blown 2x now. Panasonic itself has covered the replacement, but the ext. warranty would have done so it they had not. Now, there is a cluster of 4 stuck pixels. The ext. warranty is probably going to cover it.

There is a lot that can go wrong, unlike your older, stable std. def. CRT tvs.

Just make sure there are no egregious exclusions in the warranty (READ THE PAPERWORK FIRST!), and that you don't pay some ridiculous amount for it (don't go over ~$300 for 5 yrs).

Yes. I have worked in this industry for about 10 years now and it never fails to astound me how much it costs to repair large format televisions. Ask yourself; "If this thing fails within 5 years will I throw it away and buy a new one?" If the answer is no, get a warranty. If the answer is yes, don't get the warranty.
