God is capable of everything, according to legend, ergo, it should stand to reason. Thoughts?

It would seem many of you who ascribe omnipotence to god would limit god's ability to evolve, or to better himself, or adapt to new situations..

I've often pondered this question. The God of the Old Testament seems much different than the God of the New Testament. In the OT God is described as angry and jealous, wiping out entire nations of idol worshipers whereas the NT describes God as loving and forgiving, having eternal grace that "not one should perish (2 Peter 3:9)"

Was God's heart softened somewhere along the line? Why was there a need for a "new covenant" anyway? What was wrong with the old one? I"m not complaining. I'm thankful animal sacrifice was done away with!

Maybe the foundation of WHO god doesn't change but His methods of reaching out to His creation does. If you have children, you can relate. Is there not anything you wouldn't do for your kids to ensure their well-being and success, save change who you are fundamentally? After-all, you are who you are. Yet, you would go to great lengths to spare them any pain or attempt prevent any behavior that would contribute to their demise. Even changing up your approach with them? Could it be it's the same way with God?

Lot's more to ponder on this one. Cheers!

God in itself is a concept, a concept Evolved by Human mind... so as we will evolve this concept will evolve. But as far as the "Almighty", GOD in other words, is concerned, it is unchangble and ideal at the pennicle of its evolution. It was so earlier, it is so still and it will remain the same in future. So, better we try to find whether we evolve to "God-hood" or not rather then questioning the evolution of the "concept" of God.

I honestly don't see why not, although it will depend on your view of the idea that He is perfect. I know that humanity's views of God have evolved. Whether that applies to God himself, I don't know. If he does, I'll have to say that it's in a way that I can't understand. The details of God's existence are a mystery to me, and will probably remain so.

It is a possibility. God said to Moses: "I Am that I Am." That can be defined either literaly I Am what I Am or I will be what I will be. Some would say it means: I always was and I always will be and always remain the same.
When I say I am. . . I am referring to what I am today . In the future I will say that I am in some way progressed to be more or greater in one or more areas.

God doesn't evolve, but His laws certainly do. Just as civil law evolves with society, so does Biblical law.

i believe god is ever evolving
through us and our experiences , god is experiencing and learning
god being " perfect " means that he/she cannot understand compassion , hate , jealousy , physical love etc
therefore isn't totally perfect
i feel we are here partly for this reason actually , that through us god learns about god
read Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsh , as this topic is covered quite well

Absolutely -- he started out as just a minor god of lightning and thunder from a whole pantheon of gods for an ancient Canaanite mystery cult....and now look where he is today!

God does not change. He does however change the way he deals with man and man's sin. Hence the Old and New testament, which is the easiest dispensation to understand. However, there are more dispensations in the bible.
