I think people don't realize that the great abrahamic faiths are all three true. They want to think one supercedes the other. Truth is that Judaisim is the covenant between God and Jacob/Israel through Isaac, Islam is the covenant between God and Arabs through Ishmael, and Christianity is the Covenant God offers to gentiles through Jesus (and on back through Isaac too). I would think that the Arabs, as soon as they figure this out, will be able to have peace with Israel by removing the non-Arab (read Persian) warmongers from the issue of Israel and Palestine. There is more to it than that, of course, but it's the place to start.
Another problem is that people make scripture say what they want in order to lord it over other people. For example, the Bible never explcitly states that non-temple prostitution is wrong. Some Christians, say otherwise, but they are wrong. Some Muslims have criticized the Bible as flawed because of this. The Truth is that it is not morally wrong, but that does not mean that God requires men to meet with prostitutes. It means that God has a minimum set of laws (the Big Ten) plus any covenanted regulations, but anything else is up to you. In other words, prostitution is not immoral, but there are good reasons why a person, especially a weak person, should avoid it.
Every man and woman has their struggle with following the correct path. It's hard enough withou inventing new crimes to avoid. Religion is the institution that man makes up to deal with God, but the real struggle is in each person's heart. Institutions form hierarchies and structure power, but power tends to corrupt, and then people no longer trust the institutions. I think that people still believe in God, they just don't believe in the people who claim to be his followers. So, to answer your question: No, people are not ignoring the truth, but they are confused by the multiple claims of truth and they are not criticizing God but they are criticizing religion (for good reason).

Yes I do because truth can be like a knife to the heart for those that believe so strongly in religion, to criticize their religion totally takes away and destroys their hope they have in it, unfortunately religion has become vary controversial today and they have trouble coping with that.

I'd be more likely to characterize it as running away from a lie that has finally become known.
What would cause someone who may actually believe in God to "run away" from it other than no longer believing and/or finding it all to be false? If you thought there was a shred of proof to the God thing, why would you ignore it?

As a Reincarnationist I believe everyone is born with a sense of the truth. Sometimes children feel it strongly, sometimes it dissolves into fantasies of play-pretend, where the traces of truth get absorbed and distorted in the games of childhood. I believe we all have a sense of being more than we seem to be, or of having existed before our birth, but this awareness gets lost in the bombardment of illusions we're taught to accept as truth. I don't believe people are "running away" from the reality of life, but they often lose touch with it in childhood, replacing that inner sense of personal mysticism with the contemporary mythology taught in churches.

If people are criticizing religion and god, they are obviously not running away from the truth, but attempting to discover it. Religion has brought little good to this world.

I personally don't criticize a higher power, just the religions that have been corrupted by humans and are now used as a tool of judgement and division by people that have no sense of doing good for the sake of others, just for their own self-righteousness.

the truth is most religious people are idiots. And yes, I run away from idiots as I prefer not to associate with garbage.
Your truth is nothing more than YOUR truth which can be whatever your little mind wants it to be.
You're an idiot simply for stating you "know" the truth.

i do think we are running away from the truth.
It is especially noticable if you take notice of all the euphemisms people today use.
I think people just don't want to see things as they really are, they like what they want to see better because the truth is frightening at times.
About critizing religion, I have done it myself before, so I don't have much room to talk,
But when you think about it,
Religion is just here to help you trust something.
Maybe that is why it can be so confusing at times.

Everyone claims to be seeking and wanting TRUTH.
Problem is: When many find it, they don't like it.
Truth seems to be convenient only when it bends to our predetermined viewpoint.
As Winston Churchill said:
"Many people stumble over the truth, but they quickly get up and run away."
A similar thought is expressed in the Bible.
