I can sympathise - mine eats pies for breakfast and a coffee with 3 sugars. Lunch is a fish supper with more coffee. 'Evening Meal' is usually consumed at about 11pm and consists of either a chinese, an indian or another fish supper. He constantly eats biscuits and other assorted fast food crap throughout the day too. I've honestly just given up and i cook my own meals and eat healthily. It's done me a favour actually as i get so disgusted by all the things he eats and they sicken me. I don't think you can stop him if that's what he does. Just let him get on with it until the old arteries give him problems, then he might change. Continue cooking healthy things for yourself and the kids though and maybe one day he'll see what he's missing! Calculate also how much money he'd save if he stopped the junk food.

Is he in at the same time that you and the kids eat? Why not suggest one night a week when he sits down with you as a family and eats what you cook (You can even let him choose what he wants) If you can get him to do this you can build up from there.
The other way is make his 'junk' food for him, healthily. ie/ you can make home cooked pizza which can be healthy - the same with indian curries etc etc etc.

Hiya,
Tell him that you wish to show your kids a good example and by eating junk every day is bad and that the kids need to see their parents eating good quaility healthy food and that we could always eat a take away on a saturday or maybe a friday. And that would be a treat for the family.

Give the man his freedom! Let him decide what he wants to eat... try talking to him about it, because you have a point, I mean you want to cook a meal for the whole family, including him. Still, why force him? If there's no deeper issue, then I think it's best to let him eat what he wants. That way, he can get sick of it of his own accord. Pushing him'll just make him resentful, surely.

wait till he is not looking and put the odd hair in his food or salt pepper anything that will make him not fully enjoy his meal and after a while he will get sick of being not sattisfied.
But to be fair on takeaways if he is going to phone them up you should at this point own up so no innocent people get blamed.lol

It's a shame. Have you actually asked him? Does he come in late and miss dinner-time. Is he avoiding you and the kids? Are you a meat and 2 veg girl?
Maybe he's just an ignorant pig!!
Suggest that the children are not being set a good example and he has a duty to bone up....

tell him that he is not being a good example to your children. hopefully, that will make him change his mind about his current eating habits. also, eat meals as a family. that way he has no choice but to eat what you have put on the table since he is in front of your children. get the kids along in convincing dad to eat healthily :)

Honey we are in the same boat!!!!!! My man will only eat burgers, pizza, chili, & boiled lunchmeat sandwiches...He is over weight and refuses to eat anything other than the occassional apple or bananna that is healthy.
I love to cook and our son & I eat very healthy and he just eats garbage all the time...Occassionally he will eat my baked chicken but none of the veggies...He is now trying to get surgery to help him loose weight but it wont help much because he is afraid to try anything new...
So when you figure out what to do please let me know too...
Good Luck!!!!!!

You need to convince him of what a bad example he's setting for his kids.
Especially with obesity running rampant through the western world at the moment, and associated human lifestyle illnesses becoming more and more prevalent.
And even if he has an unusual metabolism that allows him to eat like this without getting outwardly fat, the cholesterol will still be clogging his arteries internally, and putting a strain on his heart, and blood pressure, and liver. Remind him of that, and what a risk he's taking with not just his life, but the kids' lives if they would have to lose their father to heart or liver disease earlier than they should, and grow up without him.
Remind him he's setting a bad example not just in terms of unhealthy eating for the kids, but in terms of always getting his own way, and acting spoiled (though it sounds like they're certainly not, but may become that way if he keeps setting this example) instead of eating what's there for dinner that day.
Also, there are steps you can take to convince him to eat homemade food that he'll enjoy more, such as:
- if he likes burgers, you can promise to make homemade burgers. This can be healthy if you use good lean beef mince, and grill them (you don't need eggs to hold them together), and put them in a freshly baked bap/bun (supermarkets sell these, you don't have to bake) with lots of salad and onions. Ketchup without mayonnaise will still make them taste great. In fact promise him fried onions & he'll never look back - not many takeaways will give you fried onions with your burger, and just the smell the first time you make it will convince him. If you fry them gently in just a little butter and olive oil, it's still fairly healthy as long as you don't eat it all the time.
- make chips for him at home, but instead of deep frying them, drizzle & stir to coat the potatoes in a little olive oil before cooking them in the oven at 200C for 30-40min. I make these chips all the time & they're much healthier & actually taste better than deep fried ones.
- homemade pizza. Again, tastier than anything you can get delivered from Dominoes or whoever. Buy a couple of fresh bases from the supermarket, and ask him what he wants on it, and buy all that stuff like pepperoni, and fresh mozzarella, etc. If you buy a freshly made pasta sauce to use as pizza sauce it will taste even better than any pizza that you can order for delivery. Serve it with a salad with a nice homemade dressing, just 4 tablespoons of Olive Oil, 1 1/2 tablespoons of Balsamico, 1 finely chopped shallot, 1 tablespoon of ketchup, 1 grated Garlic clove, 1 inch piece of grated Ginger root, and some freeze dried herbs like oregano & you've got a healthy delicious dressing.
- Curry. Easy to make at home from scratch with a little practice. Healthier because you can control the amount of oil that goes in. And definitely much better tasting than the takeaway stuff. Same goes for chinese style stir fries.
However, based on your description, I would also guess that he currently is addicted to takeaways, and gets a sugar and salt rush/high from them. It may take some time to ween him off them, and remember if he starts to get irritable without them, not to lose your temper - he'll be getting over an addiction just like an alcoholic giving up booze. Watch the film "Supersize Me" together - you'll both get the idea.
Good luck!

Cook healthy versions of the fast food he loves? I did it with my kids - they helped make home made chicken nuggets - big mess but great success... you never know it might work on hubby...
