Social Security survivor benefits stop when the child turns 18 or 19 if still in high school. If you are still going to high school then you can get the checks sent were ever you want, just call, they are your checks.

Here is the link http://www.ssa.gov/

Hate to tell you, but Social Security will stop now that you are 18. So now all three of you lazy slugs will need to find employment. Doesn't sound as if school was all that important to you anyway. Can't write or spell, and the grammar is pitiful.

Yes, I would think the money should go to you. You could speak with your sister. You could also contact social security directy with your SS#, to find out how much your benefit is. It may not be enough for you to live on your own. You would need to pay for a place to live, and that would probably be more than your benefit is.

I'm sorry to break your heart but I too was in the same type of situation in a way. I was getting benefits (in my mothers name) due to my father passing away. I moved out at the age of 17. I had to fill out a bunch of paper work and yes the checks did start coming to me in my name , BUT, as soon as I turned 18 the benefits quit coming.
It's sad that none of the money helped you with school supplies and such, but I'm sure the money helped pay for a roof over your head and food to eat.

This is a question for the Soc. Sec Office in your city, BUT I do believe that once you turn 18 (maybe 21 in some states) the Soc. Sec Payments stop.

I think you will be disappointed because to my knowledge Social Security survivor benefits terminate when the survivor reaches 18.

I would simply contact the social security office and notify them of your age (fax birth certificate) and request funds in YOUR name only.
