I have a HD that contains 2 partitions -- a FAT32 partition that includes the Windows 2000 operating system and programs and needs to be increased in size -- and a NTFS partition that contains very little data and could be reduced in size. I would like to find a way to resize these two partitions while still keeping my operating system, programs, and data intact and would not involve buying a program -- I have this problem on three computers that I was given. I would appreciate as detailed a description of the steps as possible as well as information on any freeware or shareware programs that might help me accomplish this task. Thank you.

I do exactly what you want to do all the time. There is a program that lets you try it for free and although the functions are not all there unless you buy it, the partitioning stuff is all there in the free trial and it runs forever.

First, you need this: http://www.bootitng.com/bootitng.html...

Then you run it and let it create a bootable floppy or cd if you are familiar with burning an iso.

First, you boot to the cd or floppy and click cancel (important) then partition tools, then get over that ntfs partition at the end of the drive and click resize, give it a size, when that's done, get on top of the new smaller one and click slide, type 0 in the bottom number box, ok, this slides it to the end of the drive, then get on the win2000 partition and click resize, the type in the biggest number in the provided range, get out of it and reboot to win2000.

PS: It's a little scary the first time, but it works and I've never had it fail, just give it time to complete each task and it'll work.

Another nice thing is that you don't actually install any software on the machines to do this.
