i live in grays, essex, uk

I'd suggest starting off at the local Historical Society then the Library. Both of those places usually have an archive section that will help you. Even if neither of those have images, someone there will be able to tell you a better place to start.

Your local library... local tourist centre... local newspaper... Essex online (they must have a site) local bookshops... and local WHSmith... just bought three good ones on my town online at WHSmith and bought past books from tourist centres ad local newspapers.
