I was in Italy last year and I loved it. You will see some amazing sights while there. We took the subway to get to the Colosseum and I will never forget walking out of the subway station and seeing the Colosseum right across the street. Don't be afraid to take the subway. It really is easy and once you get on it you wonder why you were so worried in the first place! Soak up the atmosphere and spend some time just sitting down and relaxing and people watching. I was on a bus tour and we didn't have enough time to do that. Don't forget an umbrella. We had rain at the beginning of October and I was too stubborn to pack an umbrella and wished that I had.
In Florence we went to see "David" and honestly the only thing worth seeing in Galleria dell'Acadamia is "David". I didn't get to the Uffizi and wish that I had. The Duomo and Baptistry is amazing. You should try to get to Piazzale Michelangelo at dusk for an amazing view of Florence. Great for pictures. Santa Croce is an amazing church. Go inside to see Michelangelo's tomb. Florence is great for walking because there is so much to see and do and it is smaller then it looks on the map. Have a great trip!

And in Florence you MUST visit a Duomo and a BELL TOWER. There are only 437 steps up. I DID it and i am not in a good shape at all. What a view.

I guess a lot of people already wrote great places to see in Rome. I absolutely agree with them.

You should try to make a trip to Pompeii. It is absolutely AMAZING!!! You won't be sorry. Check out Green Line Tours in Rome. They have a package that will take you on a tour to Naples, then Pompeii...lunch included.

If you like to shop, check out bus trips to the designer outlets...sorry I had to throw that in ;)

Have fun! Oh, and watch out for those gypsies!
