one is bleached.....and that process takes away some of the healthy qualities...better to eat whole wheat bread

brown bread contains the whole wheat...hence "whole wheat bread"...
white bread is WAY TOO processed....there is literally NO nutritional value in white bread (unless it is "enriched") White flour is essentially just carbohydrates.

also
whole wheat bread has a lower glycemic index than white bread. Now if you're diabetic or insulin resistant, that might mean something to you...if not, here's an explaination:

Glycemic index is a rating they put of carb rich foods. If there is a LOW G.I. that means that the broken down carbs (glucose) gets released into your blood at a slower pace, therefore keeping blood sugar more stable. A High G.I. means it's released at afaster pace, therefore causing a spike in blood sugar levels.

This can all play a part in dieting. If you're eating lower GI foods, you're more likely to not get too many cravings. High GI foods will make you want more food in a short while after eating them.

Why did I mention all that? Just FYI...also to show you that brown bread is better for you.

Remember too that the more natural the food is (the less processed it is), the better it is for you. Multigrain bread is better than just whole wheat bread...it's got more stuff in it.

hope that helps

Brown bread is made with whole wheat flour, that means that it still has the bran on it. White bread is made of flour that has the bran removed, the bran contains the largest source of nutrition and fiber in the wheat kernel. So, whole wheat bread is more healthful than white bread. the exception is that there are now some varieties of wheat that have a white bran instead of brown bran, so they can make white whole wheat bread.

Not all white flour is bleached. Go to the grocery store and look at the varieties of flour available. In a well stocked store you will find bleached white flour, unbleached white flour, whole wheat flour, white whole wheat flour, white self rising flour whole wheat self rising flour, gluten flour, etc. unbleached white is more healthful than bleached white flour and it has a better taste.

For storage options if you have flour: if it is white flour you can store it in the cupboard, if it is whole wheat you need to refrigerate it because it contains mono and poly unsaturated fats that can go rancid at room temperature.

The Glycemic Index mentioned by the next answerer is rated by the equivalent number of sugar packets you would need to consume to receive the same sugar rush.

White bread is made from bleached flour. During the bleaching process natural nutrients have been taken out, therefore leaving you with bread that is all carbs and no health. Wheat bread goes through less processes so its easier for you to digest and better for you because it contains nutrients your body needs. Both arent as good for you as vegetables tho.
