It's a matter of public record that his father subscribes to the idea that the Holocost never took place. Mels movie on Jesus seriously slants the Jewish people as selling out Jesus to the Romans to protect their own hide. So why should we believe his apology re: his anti semetic tiraid??

Its very possible that he is sorry for saying something, without changing his views or opinions. He kows he screwed up. He probably still thinks those things in his head but is embarassed that he said it out loud. On top of that, who said you had to accept his apology. If you don't like what he said, good, like every toddler he needs to learn that sometimes sorry doesn't cut it.

My father happens to be a racist sociopath, gratefully I am not. I do fight the rhetoric that he raised me with everyday though.

The movie, The Passion of the Christ, does not depict "Jews" as selling out Jesus. It was the Sanhedrin (yes, they were Jews, but they were a SMALL representation of society at the time) that called on Pontius Pilate to have Him put to death.

I am Catholic and I appreciated the movie for what it was. I know that makes me predisposed to believe Mel Gibson's apology, and truly I want it to be sincere. Even if I didn't though, I would hope that I would realize that I can not see into another person's heart, and must therefore take them at face-value. I hope this makes sense, I just woke up. *Yawn*

You know, I'm not concerned about his anti-semetic remarks he made. I understand that when you're drunk, sometimes you say things you really don't mean, and with him being an ex-alcoholic, it doesn't really help. I believe that when alcoholics are talking when they're drunk, it's not actually "them", you know? It's someone else.. What I'm concerned about is the fact that he got into a car DRUNK! And was DRIVING DRUNK! That I cannot forgive him for. As if he didn't have enough money to take a cab home and whatnot. Like I said, I don't care about his remarks. It's the fact that he was driving drunk that ticks me off. Perhaps that's what he should really be apologizing for.

One reason is so that we can move on. I suspect he's more sorry to have been found out than sorry in truth.

But there are tons of aholes in the world, and ol' Mel isn't worth fretting over, cute as he may once have been.

Perhaps rather than believing, we can apply the forgive and forget rule.

We should believe it cause he is just a man like many men. And if you don't believe its sincerity...just remember...he is a man...not a saint. He made a mistake and no matter what he believes....he knows he screwed up. He is no Pope.....he is only a man. Men have the ability to think and act for themselves..no matter what it is. Just cause he is an actor...doe not mean he will do everything you want him to do and believe in everything you believe in. Hope this makes sense to you....

I believe that he regrets what he did, but I do believe he has some anti-semitic sentiment from growing up with his father. As much as you try to fight it, if your parents had a prejudice against someone, subconsciously you will too

I care not. Regarding Mel Gibson, all I care about is whether his next movie will be enjoyable for me to watch.

Whether you believe he does not have anti-semitic views has nothing to do with whether you believe his apology for saying something insulting.

Besides, how many times have you wanted someone to believe your apology for something you said while intoxicated? I'm more worried about him driving drunk again.
