Sabbath Worship - Traditionaly Friday sunset to Saturday Sunset did you know it was changed?

The calendar order also was changed, i'd also like to point out the importance of the 10 commandments which his is one(sabbath rest) The New Testament also states entering into the Lords rest as key to salvation.

There is a lot of confusion about the Sabbath, I hope that this answer will help to clear things up. Christians must govern there lives according to the Bible, and the Bible supports the observance of the Sabbath(see bottom for list of ministers from various faiths confirming the Sabbath). NOT as a means of salvation (Romans 4), but out of Love (John 14:15). It is the ONLY command that starts with the word "REMEMBER" yet the only one people want to forget.

There are 2 problems,1) many Christians want to bring the 10 commandments back in America yet they do not want to follow the 4th. 2) I have met Christians that do not think we should come together and worship God but the majority of Christians agree that we should meet to woship and praise God, but many Christians do not want to do it on the day that God says to gather and worship Him (Exodus 20:8)

There were interesting points made and I will try to address them

1) The calender change did not change the Sabbath(Saturday) for 3 reasons.
A) it is highly unliekly that the ENTIRE Jewish community forgot which day is the Holy Day of the Lord considering they have been keeping it for thousands of years
B)The U.S. Naval Observatory and the Royal Observatory confirm "The Seventh Day Sabbath that we have today is the same that Jesus observed."

C) This would mean then that Jesus actually rose on Monday not Sunday since Jesus rose the day following the Sabbath Luke 23-24

None of these calls it the New Sabbath or day of rest

3)"Paul ordered a collection every sunday"
you are refering to I Corinthians 16:2 actually if you read Acts you see that it the money was being collected for the famine in Jerusalem it was not continuous.

4)"Revelation was given on Sunday"
You are refering to the statement "I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day" Revelation 1:10. please provide the scripture that says Sunday is the Lord's Day. The Bible says the the Sabbath(Saturday) is the Lord's Day

There is no scripture that calls Sunday the Lord's Day.

Actually it was created by God in the garden of Eden Genesis 2:1-3. Then he wrote it with His finger in stone Exodus 20:8. As a Christian I follow Christ and he kept the Sabbath. If following the word of God and following Christs example means that I am part of a "cult", I choose to make God, and Jesus happy.

This is partially correct, Yes Jesus did say that but you are incorrect for 2 reasons
A)they area summary of the 10 commandments. 1-4 love God, 5-10 love your brother.
If you love your neighbor you won't steal from him or kill, lie. If you love God you will not worship other gods or blaspheme and you WILL keep the Sabbath

B)The "New Laws" Jesus mentioned are taken from Moses and the "Old Law"
Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Leviticus 19:18 'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD

8)"Whenever God mentions "My rest" in the Bible, He is clearly referring to Heaven"
Is Genesis 2:1-3 talking about Heaven, what about Exodus 16, Exodus 20, or Leviticus 23

A)So then can we steal, murder become adulterers, worship other gods, make idols,blaspheme, then why do people want to get rid of the ONLY command that says "REMEMBER"

B) The Mosaic law is separate from the 10 commandment law of God 2 Chronicles 33:8

10)"Christ's ransom sacrifice did away with the old law covernant "
That is the exact opposite of what Jesus says. Jesus in Matt 5 says
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill."

so what Jesus really meant was.

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to get rid of them.(or end them, or finish them, etc.) It doesn't make sense

Jesus also said
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:18,19

12) "new covenant"
Hebrews 8:7-12 says
For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the PEOPLE and said "The time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because THEY DID NOT REMAIN FAITHFUL TO MY COVENANT, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord. This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."

The Old Covenant- the people failed to keep the 10 commandments “They said we will do it” Exodus 19:8 and they failed

The problem with the Old covenant was the people failed to keep the law. There was NOTHING wrong with the law.

New Covenant - written on the heart. It says nothing about new laws it is the SAME law written on the heart

The Old Covenant was based on the people, God says “If you will...then I will” Exodus 19:5

The New Covenant is based on God, God says “I will and I will”

The New covenant is the SAME law

13)Sunday Observance
The truth about Sunday worship is that it did not start during Biblical times, SUNday worshiped started in the 300s. The Emperor Constantine worshiped the sun god on SUNday and after his "conversion" he mixed pagan rituals with Christianity.

No where in the Bible does it say to worship on Sunday.

But we don’t really know which day is the seventh?

It is highly unlikely that the entire Jewish community forgot which day was their Holy day.

Both of these examples are before Mt. Sinai and the 10 commandments.

I am a Christian and I want to follow Christ. Did Jesus keep the Sabbath?

He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. Luke 4:16

Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, they asked him, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?" Matthew 12:9,10

They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. Mark 1:21

When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. Mark 6:2

But isn’t Sunday the Lord’s day?

Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. Exodus 20:8

So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath. Mark 1:21

Then Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." Luke 6:5


Did Jesus expect his followers to keep the Sabbath after he ascended into heaven?

But what about I Corinthians 16:2 “Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.”?

This verse says nothing about worship. What it is talking about is collecting money to distribute in Jerusalem (vs. 3)

If we look at Acts 18 Paul went to Corinth to build the Church

Acts 18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
Acts 18:11 And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

That is 72 Sabbaths.


But I thought the Gentiles went to Church on Sunday?

Doesn’t Roman’s say we can worship any day?

Rom 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
Rom 14:6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

If you look ate the book of Zechariah you see what Paul was talking about
Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying, Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me? And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves? Zechariah 7:4,5
Paul is talking about observing days of Fasts

Let’s think about this is Paul telling people to violate the commandments if Paul had said Rom 14:6 He that kills, kills unto the Lord; and he that kills not, to the Lord he doth not kills.

People would say "That’s crazy you can’t commit murder that’s a moral law, Paul must mean something else." Many people justify breaking the Sabbath because they view all the other laws as more important, and the Sabbath as a minor law. They use this philosophy to justify outright rebellion against God and his law


But aren’t we under Grace now?

“What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law but grace? God forbid” Romans 6:15

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. Romans7:7

Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. Romans 3:31

Is there anywhere in The Bible that says to keep Sunday Holy?
No, The scripture can not be found.


Are we saved by the Law?
NO!! Absolutely NOT!!
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8,9

Will we keep the Sabbath in Heaven?

Did the calendar change effect the weekly cycle?
No
Thursday, October 4, 1582 was followed by Friday October 15
Did the calendar change? Yes. Did the weekly Cycle change? NO!

Who changed the Sabbath to Sunday

Emperor Constantine worshiped the sun god Sol invictis (the undefeated sun) on Sunday and decided to mix pagan worship with Christianity, the question is since when did Pagan monarchs decide Bible truth?


The only commandment that people want to do away with is the only one that starts with Remember.
Is it a burden to keep Sabbath Holy?

No, it is however a burden to MAKE Sunday, which is no where in the Bible called the Sabbath, Holy.


No where in the Bible did Jesus or the Disciples instruct anyone to keep Sunday Holy.


If God created it perfect in the Garden of Eden, Moses and the Israelites kept it, If God commanded us to keep it, God says to take joy in the Sabbath, He is upset when we don’t keep it, Jesus kept it, the disciples kept and taught others to keep it, and we are going to keep it in Heaven shouldn’t we start keeping it here on Earth?

The day order of the calendar did not change, only the number assigned to the days.

"'And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men*--the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.' He said to them, 'All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.'" (Mark 7:7 - 8 NKJV)

It is interesting because God did command a particular day and did not allow people to keep any day they wanted. While in the wilderness after fleeing Egypt, the Hebrews were sent manna from Heaven. This manna fell six days a week but did not fall on the Sabbath. God knew what day the Sabbath was, the Hebrews knew it, and the Jewish people of today still know it. They keep the same day today that their ancestors did when God sent the manna.

"On the sixth day the people gathered twice as much food -- four quarts for every person. When all the leaders of the community came and told this to Moses, he said to them, "This is what the Lord commanded, because tomorrow is the Sabbath, the Lord's holy day of rest. Bake what you want to bake, and boil what you want to boil today. Save the rest of the food until tomorrow morning." So the people saved it until the next morning, as Moses had commanded, and none of it began to stink or have worms in it. Moses told the people, "Eat the food you gathered yesterday. Today is a Sabbath, the Lord's day of rest; you will not find any out in the field today. You should gather the food for six days, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day. On that day there will not be any food on the ground." On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather food, but they couldn't find any. Then the Lord said to Moses, "How long will you people refuse to obey my commands and teachings? Look, the Lord has made the Sabbath a day of rest for you. So on the sixth day he will give you enough food for two days, but on the seventh day each of you must stay where you are. Do not go anywhere." So the people rested on the seventh day. You can search the New Testament, and even the entire Bible for that matter, and you will not find one place that the Sabbath law has been revoked. What you will find is that the apostles and early church did keep the Sabbath, and Jesus expected His followers to be keeping the Sabbath some 60 years after His death.

"At that time, how terrible it will be for women who are pregnant or have nursing babies! Pray that it will not be winter or a Sabbath day when these things happen and you have to run away, because at that time there will be much trouble. There will be more trouble than there has ever been since the beginning of the world until now, and nothing as bad will ever happen again." (Matthew 24:19 - 21 NCV)

"They continued their trip from Perga and went to Antioch, a city in Pisidia. On the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down." (Acts 13:14 NCV)

"While Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people asked them to tell them more about these things on the next Sabbath." (Acts 13:42 NCV)

"On the next Sabbath day, almost everyone in the city came to hear the word of the Lord." (Acts 13:44 NCV)

"On the Sabbath day we went outside the city gate to the river where we thought we would find a special place for prayer. Some women had gathered there, so we sat down and talked with them." (Acts 16:13 NCV) (This is most interesting because Paul kept the Sabbath even when there was not a group of Jews to keep it with or a church to keep it in. He was in Philippi, and there were very few Jews there)

"Paul went into the synagogue as he always did, and on each Sabbath day for three weeks, he talked with the Jews about the Scriptures." (Acts 17:2 NCV)

"Every Sabbath day he talked with the Jews and Greeks in the synagogue, trying to persuade them to believe in Jesus." (Acts 18:4 NCV)

Check the Ten Commandments; they tell us the reason we should keep the Sabbath.

"The reason is that in six days the Lord made everything -- the sky, the earth, the sea, and everything in them. On the seventh day he rested. So the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy." (Exodus 20:11)

That reason still stands today. The Sabbath has nothing to do with the nation of Israel but everything to do with creation. God did not command the Sabbath because he wanted the Israelites to be different; He commanded it because He created it in the first week. God tries to give us a gift, and we say that it is a burden and we do not want it.

As for the Lord's Day, It is interesting to see what the Bible says about the Lord's day.

"Eat the food you gathered yesterday. Today is a Sabbath, the Lord's day of rest;" (Exodus 16:23 NCV)

"This is what the Lord commanded, because tomorrow is the Sabbath, the Lord's holy day of rest." (Exodus 16:25 NCV)

"but the seventh day is a day of rest to honor the Lord your God." (Exodus 20:10 NCV)

"So the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath day" (Matthew 12:8 NCV)

"So then, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath day." (Mark 2:28 NCV)

"Then Jesus said to the Pharisees, 'The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath day.'" (Luke 6:6 NCV)

Jesus tells us at Mark 2:27 that "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath." Clearly, the reason God wished humans to rest was to encourage worship. However, never does God require corporate worship, other than for the Levite priests -- which no longer exists, since we are all priests (according to the Order of Melchizedek) under the New Covenant.

Salvation is NOT gained by observing one day as the Sabbath over another. Salvation is gained SOLELY by belief in Jesus Christ and His attoning work on the cross. If "true" Sabbath worship was so important, God would have directly explained this. Instead, when Jesus was asked what the MOST IMPORTANT commandments were, He told us they were to 1) love God above everything else; and 2) love our neighbor. PERIOD.

Whenever God mentions "My rest" in the Bible, He is clearly referring to Heaven. For example, read Psalm 95 carefully. Who are those that God refers to when He says, "So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest." (v. 11)? They are those who "harden [their] hearts, as in the rebellion, As in the day of trial in the wilderness" (v. 8) and "a people who go astray in their hearts, And they do not know My ways.’" (v. 10b). In other words: those who are so rebellious that they violate the most important commandment: love God with all your heart, soul and strength.
