War.
If you scratch the surface you will find the fundamental reason behind the action. It is always, to one degree or another, about the acquisition of something. It could be land, riches, or simply power. Get past the propaganda that you are being fed, look just a little deeper, and there it is. And you don't have to go to obvious wars like the religious Crusades.
The Cathars - They broke away from the Catholic church creating a crack in the church's power. Result? First the church tried diplomacy and when that failed, the church sent its army to wrestle power out of the Catha's hands. Thousands died.
Vietnam - Most believe it was about Communism. Nice smoke screen there. In fact Vietnam was the world's largest producer of tungsten and tin in the 1960s. Vital ingredients in the production of steel. Any wonder the U.S. wanted to take control?
All you have to do is take a moment to scratch the surface and the economic reason behind the action will always reveal itself. Saying, "Our god is better than theirs," is the propaganda behind it. The necessary element to get everyone all fired up so they are willing to lay their lives down for the cause.

Greed. Greed for power over others and greed for wealth. The true religious wars are those fought by people like Mother Teresa, who was fighting for those forgotten by "religious leaders". I always wondered why with all the wealth the Catholic Church possesses, why so many of their "flock" live in abject poverty.

Because there are so many evil MEN.
God is not the problem, not following the example of Jesus is the problem.
If we all followed his example there would be no Wars, Hunger, or injustice anywhere.
Peace!

Cause my Gods better than your God.
My Gods better than yours.
My Gods better cause it's the one that I believe in.
My Gods better than yours.
Maybe there is one God and many prophets to send out the message. Lets appreciate the likenesses of the religions instead of killing each other over the differences.

Nearly all wars involve a religion of some sort. It's the childish game of "Mine is better than Yours"! :-)=

Salam (Peace)!
Let's just say they are not religious but political. It's all politics. Religion is just used to turn people away from it.
