or the other way round?

I’m asking because I’m confused… I met a man in Sri Lanka just before I went back to my country in Europe. At the beginning he kept sending me text messages and calling me, and I replied to his messages. Now, after 3 months, he has reduced his initiative. Which leads me to reduce my text messages too, because in my culture a woman who respects herself does not want to be running after the man, but rather waits for him to court her and responds to that. But that only leads this man to write even less and get upset and ask me why I didn’t write and whether I’m angry with him. He says he loves me, but he seems to expect me to go after him. I wouldn’t put up with this from a man from my country, but in this case I think it may be just a cultural misunderstanding…?

Do you know if it’s normal in Sri Lanka for the woman to go after the man? Any advice what I should do?

Any serious answers will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much!!!

Culturally, it is certainly not normal for the woman to chase after the man. However, it also culturally not traditional for anyone to go after anyone - arranged marriages have been the norm, although that is changing now.

Still, generally it would be considered forward for a woman to approach a man. However, I think your situation is quite different, in that it isn't an initial approach. You have both known each other for some time, and it sounds like your friend is hurt. I think you'd need to put aside ideas of cultural norms and think about what he wants and what you wants. If he feels like he is being neglected, and you are really interested in him, then surely it is worth just going for it?

Just my opinion.

Good luck, whichever way you choose to play it.

well, I'm Sri Lankan and i can guarantee that the men have to the hard work most of the time back home, well i don't know what kind of chap this is, may be he must be having his own issues to deal with.
personally i think you should either speak to him or text him and ask him if he's really interested or just wanted to have a fling.
anyways good luck!
