The church of God is defined by communities of people in the Body of Christ, meaning to say, the Christians that band together for the edification of each other in God, as well as a place for new Christians to find hope and learn about God. It is also suppsoed to be a refuge for the poor, a ground of strength against the forces of evil, and the last moral stand.
However, the increasingly accepted and incorrect view is that big building down the way, with big money and great speakers. THAT IS NOT A CHURCH. The church can be as small as 2-3, it is still considered church. Essentially, the church is The body of peopel who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and live to serve him, to bring others to Christ, and spread his light through the world, regardless of sex, race, or background.
And God founded the church for the good of man...a refuge from the bondage of sin...

A group of Christians gathered together on a more or less regular basis to worship God, to receive His ordinances, to listen to the teaching of His word, and to combine themselves together to do charitable and evangelistic acts to His glory.
Some have an edifice in which to meet, but this is beside the point.

The church is not the building. The people belonging to the denomination is the church.
In the Bible God says He's coming for his church, so He's not going to take the building with Him!
