Nooo.........the only thing that you should really take for heartburn is Tums while pregnant. Try a milkshake or any thick dairy product...ice cream, cottage cheese, yogurt....a milkshake works the best for heartburn.
Also, this is just a myth, but I have heard that if you have a lot of heartburn with pregnancy that it's a girl and she will have lots of hair upon birth. I had terrible heartburn, which I never had pre-pregnancy, and my little girl had lots of hair when she was born. Good Luck!

Pepto Bismo has a form of asprin in it, so call your OB or L&D before you take it again.
Also tell your OB or midwife about the heartburn. It could be that your gall bladder is blocked and causing the pain instead. (its a little organ that hold the bile from the liver) You can usually tell that's the problem if you have major pains after eating greesy or oily foods. Surgery is usually recommended in very bad cases, but usually not until after baby is born.
Good luck.

I remember those days...I lived on Tums. I had a bottle beside the bed and in my purse at all times! The other thing I tried and liked, but can't remember the actual brand- but they were chewable (like taffy) for heartburn. Everyone always said I'd have a baby with lots of hair (that old wives tale) since I had heartburn so bad...boy, did she ever have the hair! ;o) Good luck!

Best remedy for heartburn is ginger, believe it or not! Completely natural and yummy. Buy gingerroot at the store, peel a chunk about the size of a quarter and 1/4 inch thickness, and smash it up, and make it into a tea with some lemon and sugar. Worked for me! Learned it from a midwife.

You can take Tums or Zantac for heartburn. DON'T take Pepto
Make sure to check with your doctor about what meds are ok to take. My doctor gave me a list at my first visit.
Per the drug info site on pregnancy meds:
Pregnancy-The occasional use of bismuth subsalicylate is not likely to cause problems in the fetus or in the newborn baby. However, based on what is known about the use of other salicylates, especially at high doses and for long periods of time, the following information may also apply for bismuth subsalicylate.
Salicylates have not been shown to cause birth defects in humans. However, studies in animals have shown that salicylates may cause birth defects.
There is a chance that regular use of salicylates late in pregnancy may cause unwanted effects on the heart or blood flow in the fetus or in the newborn infant.
Use of salicylates during the last 2 weeks of pregnancy may cause bleeding problems in the fetus before or during delivery or in the newborn infant. Also, too much use of salicylates during the last 3 months of pregnancy may increase the length of pregnancy, prolong labor, cause other problems during delivery, or cause severe bleeding in the mother before, during, or after delivery.

My doctor allowed me to take zantac every morning during pregnancy for my horrible heartburn. This seems to be a safe medication but talk to your doctor before hand as your medical profile is different from anyone out here. I hope you feel better soon.

One or a few doses should be okay but you should stop taking more. Pepto-Bismol contains bismuth subsalicylate as its active medicinal component. Subsalicylate is related and could be a precursor or a by-product of acetylsalicylic acid or ASA, commonly known as aspirin. Either form (ASA or subsalicylate)may elicit the same side effects as they are related. It is for this reason why Pepto Bismol is not recommended to people with aspirin allergy. Aspirin per se is not popularly recommended or could even be contraindicated to pregnant women especially during the last few weeks of pregnancy as it may thin-out blood. Thin-out blood could lead to prolonged or uncontrolled bleeding during delivery.

Tums contains calcium carbonate is a better and safer alternative to relieve you of a bad haertburn. In fact, it is even recommended to pregnant women as a source of calcium supplement
.
You could take it as follows:
Regular Strength (Calcium Carbonate 500 mg/chewable tablet):
Antacid/Heartburn: Adults and pregnant women: Chew 2 to 4 tablets as needed. But do consult a physician if symptoms persist beyond 2 weeks or recur. Maximum: Adults: 16 tablets/day. Pregnant women: 7 tablets/day.
Calcium supplement: Adults and pregnant women: Chew 2 tablets after meals or as directed by a physician. Maximum: 7 tablets/day. But I would not recommend it as a calcium supplement for now as you may be taking other multivitamins preparation containing calcium.
