Even if you repeat the sin once you've promised yourself never again?

You have to determine not to repeat it. If you're just unloading your guilt intending to go and sin some more, your sins will not be forgiven. But failing in your resolution not to sin any more will not prohibit forgiveness. Not making a real effort to change your behavior will.

Not if you're catholic! Catholics are REQUIRED to go to confession.

Don't know much about the others, although I once attended a Lutheran confirmation. The minister told them to bow their heads and ask for forgiveness. I couldn't believe my ears! That's all they have to do? How did we get such a raw deal?

The Church states that you must ask for absolution from a priest... I firmly believe that all one must do is be Godly sorry and try their hardest not to do it again. You don't have to have a mediator to get to the Lord.

Judas was sorry in a sense... wrong sense though

there is a repentance that leads to death and a repentance that leads to life

In a repentance that leads to life, guilt is not a destination, it is a vehicle to bring you to a clean joyful place God intends for you

Yeah you will always be forgiven if you ask. You need however to make a point to not do that again, though otherwise your former repentance means nothing.

Repent means "to turn away". Take steps to specifically avoid repeating whatever it is you did wrong.

True repentance involves a permanent change of heart and restitution of the wrongs you have committed. That's why murder and suicide are so hard to repent for.
