Saving species just for the hell of it makes no sense to me. Since most of those are just minor offshoot variations of abundant and teeming species, and their difference has no great meaning in the world.
Now, preserving some species that have been hunted down for stupid stuff, like tigers whose bones are some precious elixir for Oriental men with tiny limp penises, is different and worthwhile.
