job and did not get any raises for it. The company that I work for sees it as "Being a Team Player or Putting the Company Values First" How would you feel if you were in this type of situation. I know that this is the wrong category to ask the question in but I like all of the intellegent answers I received from you people in this section.

How often does your company perform appraisals on staff members? If it's a company that performs appraisals often, that's a good time to ask for a raise. If its appraisals are non-existent, I suggest you should move on. Appraisals are meant to protect one who has done his/her fair share of work.

Another possibility for your 'suffering' could be you have failed to document your work done. Perhaps your supervisor hasn't observed that you've done more than the rest of the team players. That's when you need to make sure he's aware of what you are doing. I would suggest you itemise the tasks you have performed throughout the year, compare your accomplished tasks with a few colleagues before you ask for a raise. You don't need to openly compare what you've done versus your colleagues...quietly observe, that's all.

A word of caution though, when you ask for that rightful raise, don't mention what you've done while so and so hasn't done. This causes unwanted foe. Just state objectively how much you have contributed to your organisation so far. A company will definitely consider a raise for you if you have value added to the company.

Naturally you don't want to come across as a complainer. Do other employees have this same issue of being assigned multiple jobs. If so, you probably won't get any sympathy from management or human resources and I wouldn't push the issue. If you've been singled out, you may want to point this out and ask for an assistant or try to prove how much more effective you would be at your main task if these other tasks weren't taking you away from it all the time.

I have had two raises in 6 years at my job. I am also asked to go out of my way to do many non related to my job duties. I am in the health care industry and paid by the state I live in. They want us to provide the best care possible. However they want it for what I consider less then enough to live on. I go to work for this wage because I want the people I care for to have the best care regardless of my wages. It makes me mad everyday to know I will be asked to do more on top of being expected to not get a raise. Team Player is a sickening term.

I am so there!!! Do we work for the same people? My office is comprised of three different departments and then there is me who does a job no one else has a clue how to do. I am cross trained in the other departments as well so when someone is out they always expect me to pitch in. They have a cow if I mention vacation or taking off and make me feel guilty if I do it anyway. And my job description is the generalized one of every other person in this room....its horrible and while I like my job and the people I work with, I hate the fact that I allow them to take advantage of me the way they do....I just hate to rock the boat I guess and it bites me in the a** every time....

it depends what the responsibilities r, and it depends on whether or not it takes from the work that ur already responsible for?? if u don't mind then go w/the flow and eventually or shall i say hopefully they'll notice that ur being a team player and offer u some type of incentive..

but if it's getting in the way or u find that it's a lil burden then speak to ur supervisor or hr and ask their opinion on it.. or u can speak to ur union if u have one or the dept that helps the employees when they have questions or concerns..

i feel u though.. i want to compensated for addt'l job responsibilites that were not initially in my job description when i got hired...
