John Lennon was out of his mind on heroin most of the time in his post Beatles days. Which is why they really don't make sense. Pretty adolescent lyrics. So sad for a grown man.

Scottyoung1, you are SO RIGHT!

Don't listen to song lyrics too hard. By and large they are just pretty words strung prettily together.

Unless it's a country song. Those songs make sense. They tell stories.

Musicians are not philosophers of our age. They just put words together that sound nice together. Ever listen to Beck, his lyrics are insane. As for this Lennon quote, it's like the "opiate for the masses" quote eveyone likes to use but has no factual basis. Why, I could say, "love is a concept by which we measure our pain", or "intuition is a concept by which we measure our cholesterol". Empty words...empty words.

No offense to you or anyone but John Lennon was/is an icon. A foreward thinking person, who expressed himself musically, and otherwise, as was his right.

Idealist? I doubt it. Certainly we all dream of better. He just happened to be enough of a realist to know that we only have better when we believe we do.

I suspect, that GOD is a concept, and certainly Faith is truth not Fact. The analogy suggests, in my mind at least, that John wasn't saying GOD delivers nothing but pain, but "we" measure pain in our beliefs, rather than in our actions. We rarely blame ourselves for anything that goes wrong. GOD is an easy target for blame, and applying painful experiences, that happen to us,,, to being HIS "fault" in many ways.

Think about it. WHO is the first person we call on, or blame, or question, when something isn't working as we feel it should?

IE:
God why me?
God where are my car keys?
God help me?

The measure of pain, in most living species is just a comparison against measures of NON painful experiences, and then we often slip into listing and self pity,,,sigh.

at the start he's asserting which you may open your innovations to concepts which you have in the past close out via fact of a few stupid prejudice. Secondly he's asserting that whether it does not exist in "actual existence" that each and every thing you could think of exists interior your head, and who's to declare it does not. it is your head and you will have issues on your head that could't be interior the "actual international". it rather is completely sane, and that i think of he's remarkable (aside from the dragons and faeries ingredient), yet he's in basic terms attempting to coach a factor. luck & Love Teacake

That's Lennon's concept-but since he was an idiot-what difference does it make. Look at accomplishments (other than making money from music), he left nothing but a mess.

John Lennon was an ideological genius. Just take a look at the lyrics to _Imagine_.
