Right now, I smoke only 5 packs of cigs a day. I'm thinking if I cut down to 2 - 3 packs a day, I won't have to worry about getting cancer. Do you think maybe that is cutting down too much?

Nah, I smoke a carton of reds a day and my lungs are as clear as a bell. Been doing it for ten years now. I run five miles a day to keep the phlegm down.

I'm not trying to be a bossy person but being an ex smoker of thirty years, there is no way anyone could smoke 5 packs a day unless you are only smoking parts of the cigarettes. How about tossing the packs into the waste basket and not smoke any, that way your lungs can clear and you can live a little longer. It will be hard but it's worth it.

Yeah this is a joke. Anyone smoking 5 packs a day would be smoking 100 cigarettes a day, which would mean about one every ten minutes during a 16 hour day you are awake. any cigarette causes cancer

u can have cancer anyways. even those who do not smoke at all are at the risk of lung cancer. Passive smoking is a prophylaxis. Lung cancer depends on eho long have u been smooking and how many per day. If u are smooking for 10 years, then it means u must not smoke for the further 20 years to diminish the risk. good that ur trying to stop it

Try cutting your packs down slowing...eventually smoking a few cigerattes a day until you stop smoking. That will cut down the chance of you getting cancer. Good luck with it and God Bless!

You can't ensure you won't get cancer. even people who are healthy can get cancer for no reason at all. but if you want to be safe about it, I would cut all the way back. 0 packs a day! smoking can kill you!

Your question was truely "Original". About 75% of deaths from chronic bronchitis and emphysema are attributed to smoking. Smoking accounts for more than 30% of all deaths from cancer, almost 90% of deaths from lung cancer. It's a smoking fact that smoking is responsible for about a quarter of heart attack deaths. A strong link has also been discovered between smoking and cancer of the pancreas, kidney, and urinary bladder. On average, smoking removes 15 years from a smoker's expected life span. Second hand smoking has also shown to be a major risk factor is the development of disease in non-smokers. Lastly, my father smoked for 39 of his 60 years of life and he passed from non-small cell lung cancer, I may add that his smoking although it wasn't the cause of cancer was a factor in his ability to rehabilitate and the rapid deterioration of his health. So in any aspect as you've read above isn't good for you quit smoking, it shaves off 15 years of your life!
