Invented by a quack (Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann 1755–1843) and based on the idea that 'like cures like'.
This is a relatively 'new' alternative medicine.
It uses dilutions so small that (statistically) there may be NO molecules of the active ingeredient in the homeopathic mixture!!
It would require a suspension of the laws of physics and chemistry for Homeopathy to work!!
It is a placebo, and has never been shown to work in double blind tests. The only results are from biased 'anecdotal testimony'.
(ie, "I took this, I got better, therefore it must work")
And yet this stuff is a goldmine...you can buy it straight off the shelves at tesco or boots. Why? Why? Why?

I disproved Homeopathy in 1976 in an article published in CARAVAN an English fortnightly published in India. Old timers still believe in it becaused they are being carried away by slogans like "natural" "herbal" "no side effects " no complications" "cheap". Some diseases are self limiting by nature`s own defense. Such ailments are "cured " by Homeopathy. The easiest way to disprove it without using any scientific jargon is that Homeopathy is never allowed where patients belong to an organised group like medically insured, police military paramilitary , fire service, prisons, employees of factores etc.Homeopaths claim that a drug that cures a disease if given to healthy people causes the disease it cures.I took several Homeopathic remedies and never got any disease. If some Homeopathic drug really worked it might have worked but not based on Homeopathic principle.Mistakes of modern medicine do not prove correctness of Homeopathy.

Well, ok. Here it comes straight from someone suffering from epilepsy, asthma, hayfever, joint problems and a bad back. Firstly, the NHS (england) knows sh1t about medical practice. I have had nothing but bad times on their epilepsy medication. When I started on my first course within weeks I had put on a mass of weight, was constantly tired and felt disoriented all the time. The asthma medication I started off on stunted my growth real bad as a kid (they actually admitted this to me and took me off it), their hayfever remedies dont do crap and when I suffered my original back injury the ambulance crew that removed me from the car crash almost dropped me off the stretcher. All that kinda crushed my confidence in them so thats reason number 1. Secondly, yeah I know about the scientific reasons you are stating. I thought that too but I tried it nevertheless. I am now taking homeopathic solutions for my joint and back problems on a regular basis and also take traditional chinese medicine for all my problems. It works better than any rubbish I have been prescribed over the years by Britains NHS and that comes from ignoring the hype and so-called science and trying it for myself. Try it, then decide.

Why does anyone buy into anything? Perhaps because the standard medical treatments have failed them. Or they do not have money or insurance to use standard medical treatments. There is the possibility that homeopathy will work while other things have not. Hope born out of desperation.

Say what you like about homoeopathy, all I know is that I have seen the results with both me and my mum.
My mum was so allergic to horses she couldnt go within 100metres of one without having a severe allergic reaction & would be eyes streaming etc for days. Homoeopathy has enabled her to completely get rid of that.
I got really bad IBS (after getting gastroenteritis) whilst going through a tough time. I tried everything to help it go away, nothing worked but homoeopathy.

Both myself and my mum are completely balanced down to earth people. There was no mental dependency involved with either condition. Yet, the results speak for themselves.

For some people whose sickness is mostly brought on by a mental predisposition "I am sick", sometimes all the need is a reason to believe they are getting better, hence why Homeopathics are popular. Its new age, its trendy, and for some people it makes them feel better, even if in the end they made themselves better. I agree is rather useless and no one should charge for this stuff, but if it makes someone feel a little better, its worth having around.

I believed in it until I went to a homeopathic 'doctor'. She was a bigger quack that Donald Duck.

Whole thing was insane.

She made me leave the room whilst she opened the triple locked 'medicine' cupboard as the pills were so 'potent & powerful' that I might mug her for them in a junkie frenzy.

I went to her because I was desperate with continual food allergies. sat in her office thinking 'I can't believe I'm paying for this'. I should have gone to the bloody library and read a book on food problems instead.

Never, ever again.

Placebo affect, what's wrong with placebo affect?, if it makes you better great, if it doesn't, no harm done, unlike modern prescribed medication, if it works, great, if it doesn't, hospitalisation or even death. It is stated that around 40% of hospital patients are there because of wrong diagnosis, and or wrongly prescribed medication, by Doctors.

You're right.

Some of the press about it is very positive though and I have even fallen into the trap of buying various remedies.

However, have learnt from my mistakes as none of them have ever worked.

It's overpriced nonsense and should be banned or if it is genuine, doctors should prescribe it. Let's see how many of them would be willing to put their reputation on the line and do that????!!!!

Absolutely not
but people do....

Getting down with science takes effort.
Some homespun nonsense digests easier and you don't have to engage your brain.
Homoeopathy did nothing for my friends with ME and they paid a lot. They could have gone on and on paying. The therapist would have been quite happy. Vulnerable people will try anything.
As you say its a load of bol****
