Learn meditation practice.
A great one is 'the mindfulness of breathing', as taught by the western Buddhist order.
It is to teach you focus and works very well with regular practice.
There are no quick-fixes to this dilemma, I'm afraid. The human mind, and the society in which we live, is hectic and confusing. It takes practice to be able to quieten ones thoughts and free our minds to possibilities.

Meditation is the practice of focusing the mind, often formalized into a specific routine. Meditation is usually recognized as a component of Eastern religions, originating in Vedic Hinduism. It encompasses any of a wide variety of spiritual practices which emphasize mental activity or quiescence. Meditation can also be used for personal development, such as the exercises of Hatha yoga. Many practise meditation in order to achieve eternal peace, while others do it in order to become healthier and friendlier

I don't think that you or anyone can fully control your thoughts, if the applicability of 'control' is adhered in its true sense. Since thoughts often emerge from the inner-consciousness which is virtually unconscious is uncontrollable by any means. However, you can force certain level of adaptability suiting the circumstances you are in to best of your predicament.

I am so glad you asked. Try this: find a quite place, a truly quite place spend atleast 1minute calming your spirit and breathing. And only think about breathing, then ask the Holy Spirit to allow you to focus your mind, calm your mind, breathe.. You must train your mind to focus. Meditation if you will. And when you begin tostrengthen your mental status on focusing on one thing at a time, it willbe easier.. Satan tries to invade all thoughts especially during prayer. He doesn't want you to pray, he wants to control you. Cast him out in Jesus' name. It will then be too powerful for him to be allowed in. You have the authority given by Jesus' for many great things.. good luck and god bless

Everyone has this problem I guess. But we're meant to bring evry thought to the obedience of Christ.
Never free ur mind, meditation is a conscious practice. if bad thoughts come, remember who you are and speak out loud. Words can chase thoughts.
Also try practising always thinking positively about everything and everyone. I'm still working on it too, but the above has helped me. Hope it helps u too. Peace.

First, do some serious self-analysis so you know where those thoughts are arising from.
Next, start meditating daily. That's the best exercise for learning focus.

Better to erase unwanted thoughts, emotions, attitudes etc
than try to control them, since they are actually not part of who you really are.
Recommend the book "Dianetics The Modern Science of Mental Health".
This book tells why you have these unwanted thoughts etc and how to erase them.
Fascinating stuff!

By focusing on what God wants from you and for you. Focus on God, and He will lead your mind into rightousness.
Psalms 94:11 The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.
Psalms 92:5 O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.
Give your thoughts to God.

well, I don't know what you want, but if you get bad thoughts, chase them off in jesus' name. also, it takes a while for them to go, so, you can think about something else, read a nice book, watch a nice movie, get friends to talk to. an idle mind is a footstool of the devil, don't allow urself to wonder away. Good luck
