There are plenty of exceptions, but as a general rule I believe males are more affectionate than females.

I don't know if tabbies tend to be more affectionate as a general rule, but I have noticed that orange tabbies seem to be especially sociable to people, and brown tabbies seem to be predisposed to having sweet, gentle, loving personalities. My cats' vet agrees with this, especially about the orange boys.

It's been established that some personality traits are genetically linked to coat colors/patterns, so it's possible that there might be something real to the theory about orange tabbies being sociable to humans and brown tabbies being sweet and gentle.

BTW, all cats are tabbies under the skin. Tabby is the natural coat pattern of Felis sylvestris, the direct ancestor of the domestic cat (Felis felis.) Every cat carries the gene for tabby stripes, but in many of them it's been overwritten by other, non-striped patterns. But it's still there in their genes.

No, I don't agree. I have one male and one female tabby. They are both affectionate though the female is more so.

I work for an all cat vet and we see many, many tabbies of both sexes. Sometimes the males are affectionate -- sometimes they aren't. Sometimes the females are affectionate -- sometimes they aren't.

I think it's the personality of the cat as well as how it was raised more than the sex of the cat.

I have a male Tabby and a Female Calico cat who is both black and yellow Tabby. They are both very friendly but between them both I would have to say that my Female is more so.
