If you want to get rid of Spy Ads the best software is “SpyBot S & D” I used it for a quite a time. You can get it for free. Once installed, you can check your system and delete the detected Spy Wares. Try the following link

Be sure that you have one (and only one) anti-virus. Update it and run it often (at least once a week).

Be sure that you have one (and only one) firewall (do not depend on the Microsoft XP firewall--it covers your ports but does not stop anything from going out the back door of your computer!).

You should have multiple (anti-)spyware programs (e.g., Spybot and Ad-aware). I run Ad-aware every time I am about to shut down my machine after being on the Internet.

Make sure you have all of the MS updates-- security patches and Office updates have been combined into one site at Microsoft: http://update.microsoft.com/ Also, http://tinyurl.com/eylck will take you to the same update site. Note: after having MS scan your computer and download updates, go back to this site and have it scan your computer again--some updates need a prior update in order to do a newer update.

Do you have a pop-blocker? Be sure it is tuned on.

Will we ever be free of these intrusive ads? Probably not. A recent survey disclosed that ad companies are dealing directly with online ad companies and they are aware that the online companies are using every trick to get their ads on your screen.

Legislation was proposed last year that would have required online ad companies to notify computer users if they were going to download this crap into your machine and also you would have the right to opt out of it.

But one thing that came out with the disclosure of the warrentless wiretaps was that the White House was secretly downloading programs into every computer that visited/downloaded the WhiteHouse.gov site. So, if the White House was involved in this, you can bet they did not want this legislation passed (this along with large amounts of $$$ going to legislators!).
