Remember, your skin is an "organ." It excretes waste products and to some extent it can also bring material in from the surface. So cleaning your skin...not obsessively mind you...but reasonably is important so this process can go on. You don't want to wash so much that you destroy the natural oils that keep the skin soft and supple, but enough to keep it healthy.
