I can't get rid of fleas on my cats and ferret. First I tried natural remedies like diet and diametaceous earth powder, bathed the ferret, then eventually just took out all the carpet and bedding, sprayed with knockout, used advantage, and this month tried frontline spray. I still see fleas on my cats, usually around their necks. And they jump on my legs often too. They have always been indoor cats. One cat has a flea allergy, she especially needs help. What else is there to do? Did I maybe not use enough frontline spray on them?

You MUST treat the environment, including the yard. When treating the home, buy a product from the vet with an insect growth regulator. They will tell you how to use it and what to do. Vacuum and change the bag afterward! A second treatment may be necessary in heavily infested home - which sounds like you have! Protect your pets every month with a monthly application of Frontline Plus, Advantage, Revolution..something from the vet. Home remedies just don't work on fleas.
Also, chances are good that your pets have now acquired tapeworms. Take them to the vet for proper deworming. OTC treatments just don't work as well, plus the vet can guarantee their product if they aren't taken care of. Please read: http://muextension.missouri.edu/xplor/agguides/pests/g07380.htm

A fantastic product i used on my cats was something called 4Fleas. These tablets can be bought over the counter at pet stores and are veterinary approved. You give your cat 1 tablet and within 15 minutes it starts to work. It says on the box kills All fleas in 24 hrs. I found no fleas after 2 hours and my cats were rather infested. Its best to confine the cat to one are as the fleas drop off the cat and die. This product does not kill flea eggs though so you have to repeat every few days. for about a week. Spray the whole house with a good strong household flea spray and the Fleas should be a thing of the past. Sprays from the vets is best

It sounds like you have a really, really bad infestation.
I would give each cat a Capstar tablet (from your vet). It will quickly kill all the fleas on them. Also, apply Revolution to the skin on the back of their neck. This will keep fleas off for a month (reapply every 28 days).
I think you need to have an exterminator come in to spray your house and yard for fleas as it sounds like it's past anything you can control. If it were me, I would board my animals at the vet the day this is done and ask the exterminator how soon it would be safe for the pets to come back in.
As far as the ferret, call the vet you use for him/her. I would not want to give you any advice that could be dangerous for that species.

Get them dipped at the vet's, then board them while you get the fleas out of the rest of the house.
If you don't want to bomb the house- and I don't really like that idea either- get a flea-killing powder from the store, sprinkle it on your carpet and furniture, and after 20 minutes vacuum it up. And keep vacuuming every day for at least 2 weeks so you'll catch any newly-hatched fleas. If you can't find the powder, use borax or powdered laundry detergent. Get someone to come in and treat your yard too, in case there are fleas hiding there.
Good luck!

Try Revolution from a vet. Its a gel that is applied between the cat's shoulder blades. It worked great on my cat. Also you need to treat your house for fleas with a flea bomb (remove the pets first) and then vacuum and wipe everything down.

Get 'Capstar' from your Vet or a supply company on the internet. They work within 30-60 minutes and will definitely kill ALL the fleas on your animals. They are safe to use everyday. You should use the monthly topspot on them also, and use the capstar between, if you see fleas. Also, vacuum your floors everyday and keep all bedding clean. Within a short time, you will definitely not see any fleas.

Fleas in CA have been of super variety for a long time. Advantage is the only thing I have found that works. Not cheap, get it from a vet, but it does the job.

If you have a really bad infestation.
On the same day you need to bug bomb (make sure it kills fleas) your house. Wash your pets and apply advantage or frontline.
