A lot depends on how much damage has been done, how long he's been doing it, his age, and what kind of physical shape he's in.
I was diagnosed with alcoholic hepatitis in 1981; I had been severely abusing alcohol, 2-3 quarts of hard liquor a day. My eyes and skin had turned yellowish. I quit drinking and my liver repaired itself quickly.
I did go back to abusing alcohol for a time, but never to that level, never had a return of those symptoms and I somehow survived, but I wouldn't suggest trying it, I'm just mentioning this to let you know that the liver can regenerate.

If he has Hepatitis, it's probably hep-C and he has cirrhosis, which is scaring of the liver. If he has any active, living tissue in his liver it can regenerate itself; however, if he has Hep-C (ask the doctor) it will be a rough road for him. Milk Thistle is suppose to be good for the liver. I suggest you ask the doctor what type of Hepatitis he has because it will make a vast difference in his therapy. If it's Hep-C, there is no cure and the treatments are almost as bad as the disease itself. God Bless You all.

If he are diagnosed with alcoholic hepatitis, you will need to stop drinking. By avoiding alcohol, you may be able to reverse the damage that was done to your liver.
Even if the damage is too severe to reverse, you should still quit drinking to prevent further harm to your liver.
I has a friend who used to suffer from Alcoholic Liver Disease, he has used the treatment based on a e- book, so it really effectively in a short time, he becomes heathier. you can have reference on link here:

From what you say, it looks like he is at end-stage liver disease. You are right, the only way he has a chance to survive is to never drink again.(only if he has any functioning liver left). They of course wont do a transplant on a drinker either. Vit's,etc. wouldnt do any good at this point (i dont think) because his liver probably cant metabolize things now. The liver can regenerate but that depends on how bad it is and if he changes his life style.
