depends on the dog. All breeds CAN be good with small dogs, but some individual are not because they werent socialized properly.

I agree that it needs to come into the 'pack' as a puppy, then it will accept the little pug's place in the social structure. I had a German Sheperd, and introduced a Papillon into the house (similar sort of size as a pug). We had to keep them seperate while it was a puppy in case over enthuseastic play or investigating cause accidental harm, but after a couple of months they got on fine - the little one just learned to keep out from under the big one's feet while chasing balls! You should be fine. I'd like a pug :) You should be fine. Shepherds are pretty gentle loving dogs, usually.

Yes. It is much easier, as others have already said, if you get the shepherd as a puppy. German shepherds have very strong personalities, so a puppy would be more likely to adapt itself to your pug's personality. I can't stress enough the importance of constant supervision. They should never be left along together until they are a little older. The shepherd may not know his/her own strength and may injure your pug while playing. The pug may also snap and injure the puppy in self defense.

Good luck to you!

Shepherds are good with small dogs. They do herd though so they'll spend they're play time running circles around your pug. They are also very "footy" when they play but I've never seen one do it to be mean. If your pug likes to play or you get an older shepherd it shouldn't be any problem.

mine are but every dog is different. If your shepherd is used to extremely rough play already he may hurt the pug unintentionally. But if you keep an eye on them and stop play before it gets to rough for the pug you should have no problem.
If you're thinking about getting a shepherd pup then you'll not have a problem at all.The pug will lay down the rules.

As long as you get the Shepherd as a puppy. I have two shepherds (correction...my HUSBAND has two shepherds) and I have a chihuahua. They get along fine. My chihuahua used to beat up the shepherds when they were puppies. Hahahaha
