The phrase originated from stories of people who literally 'sold' their souls - the immortal part of themselves - to the Devil, in return for some advantage - usually involving money, power and the pleasures of the flesh. The legend of Faust, or Doctor Faustus, is a key example of this.
Nowadays, except to extremely religious types who still believe there is a real Devil, it means to perform an action that goes against your own moral and ethical codes, usually for some career advancement or financial reward.

Sealing a deal that goes against your moral code?
For eg, if you agree to marry someone you hate for money, and he would make your life miserable, thats sort of selling your soul to the devil.

It means you exchange your soul for something you desire. It is usually done by signing an agreement on a paper, in the presence of witnesses. You sign the paper in your own handwriting, with your own BLOOD. by signing with your blood, you can nolonger break the agreement, you have no way out. if you dare get out, you'll die!! BUT, the only safe way out is if you accept Jesus Christ and fully be committed to him. every time satan comes back to remind you of the agreement, you send him away in Jesus' name, tell him you repented and were forgiven. Don't sell your soul to the devil.

it means to live for him,and dont do it what good is it if a person should gain the whole world and lose his own soul, like Jesus said. we need be filled with the Holy spirit so God can flow through us to help others.

It means that you are doing something bad that you know is bad because you think you may get something good in the long run for it but in reality that 'good thing' will turn very bad.

what do you think it means? The devil dosn't want to be erased from existance alone, so he wants you to get erased with him. To do that, he has to make your life miserable so you can have no value for it and want to die anyway.
