We can only define our answers by our own understanding of God as we understand him/her.
To undertake a responsibility of dictating, or questioning anothers rights or beleifs, no matter what consequences they may spell out for others, should also be understood that our own may be questioned.
Even though it may seem barbaric, or over the top justice, it would seem to me that it is the way of their land.
We do not have to agree, or even remotely beleive that these kinds of punishments are right, but in all things, we only can accept that they do as they do.
Our understanding of God, and his rightousness deliver us from the need to have these barbaric practices, but our God also tells us to not judge lest we be judged.
There is only one judgement, and one judge, and we shall all face that soon enough.
As far as evil goes, there is enough evidence that even certain cristians create a picture of evil.

Well, Islam does have a lot of cruel and harsh punishments, as well as things that others not of Islamic religion does not approve of or believe. the only thing i can say is that Islam has been practicing their religious beliefs and humanity for many years, ever since Muhammad came out with the Qur'an. Although the child was very young, many Muslims would believe that what they did was right because what the child was doing was wrong. at the same time, it did take place in Iran, a country that does practice Islam as a religion. As much as inhumane and unbearable it was, and how unfair it may seem, at the end of the day, it's how they deal with it that counts. always remember that what they do they've been doing for many years and it's the way they've been taught how to deal with certain punishments and crimes.

Dont try to isntill slanderous accusation if u dont understand what Islam is all about.
U are a liar
I dare u to show ur proof
In Islam , if a man steal, they will not be straight away amputated.
Islam will consider if either the man is poor, he has many mouth to feed or maybe just greedy.
All this thing will be taken into consideraton.
U know why u r such a BIG LIAR.
Cos the law is invalid if the participant involved is a child.
Each person only acquire his/her own sin once they reach maturity( girl-after menses, boys after wet dream or above 15 )

There is evil in PEOPLE. It's people who are the source of all the evil things that are done on this planet. There is no point in pointing the finger at a particular religion. It's not like other religions are any better, simply because it's people who do evil things, not religions.
You have Americans who claim to be Christians throwing a 7 year old child in jail because he caused a tragic accident. This sounds to me like the pot blaming the kettle.

I am a Christian myself and don't understand the religion of Islam all too well. Still I would say that the religion itself may not be evil, but the followers who commit evil acts in the name of that religion. An example of this would be the way that some so-called Christians commit evil in the name of God.
Examples:Adolf Hitler; kkk; etc.

There is a lot of evil in all religions, you can't just blame Islam. Take a look at the middle ages and what Christians did to people, it's horrible. Look at what secular societies have done (China tortures people quite often).
It's humans and their desire to hate and dominate others that is the problem

y all the Islam bashing in here!!!!
the first answer was correct. Islam is not inhumane, men are. they are devious and misuse the QURAN for their own purposes.
i think that some things are misinterpreted. yes it is true that Sharia law says that the hand must be chopped off if caught stealing but there are Judges to make decisions and it is left up to them to decide if punishment is right in the case. any one who takes it upon himself to punish without consultation will be punished by Allah in the Final Days!
keep that in mind when u blaspheme!!! every man must pay for their sins. and only Allah can judge their hearts!!

rather then just looking at thta incident and blaming islam for what happened look at islam itself.
islamic law would consider a lot more then just breaking someone's hands.
research shariah and then pick out errors, no country on this planet has established the whole of shariah many systems are flawed by the human rulers, don't blame the faith blame the people.
you don't exactly blame a perfect car if it crashes you blame the stupid driver.
