My Sheltie is two years old and was spayed at six months old. She's never humped anyone or anything and just recently (the past week or so), she's been humping my friends when they come over or sometimes just the air. When I say her name in a menacing tone, she looks up at me and stops. WHAT is going on?

Dogs are pack animals. Like any organization, there is a pecking order from the top to the bottom. Who gets to eat first, who gets to breed the available females first. This pecking order is determined by their physical interaction to find out who in the pack is the Alpha or dominant dog. The Alpha dog usually ends up being the biggest toughest male. After him comes everyone else and they all have to fight it out with each other to determine where in the pack pecking order they are. Your dog is trying to establish where in the pack pecking order she is, by trying to physically dominate your friends and show them she is higher up in the pack than they are. You are the Alpha dog in the pack, whether you are a man or woman doesn't matter after that. The pecking order is always capable of changing when a new dog enters the pack. Once your dog figures out where she stands in the pack with all the people you know, her behavior will calm down. Good luck...have fun with your dog.

Humping is an act of dominance for a dog. She might hump your friends to let them know who's boss. Sometimes dogs hump things when they're happy or when they're being playful (that might be why she's humping air).. It's normal behavior.

It's just a natural thing for dogs. My 10 year old lab is spayed, and she still occassionally does it, but not like when she was a puppy. Only when she's around other dogs. Don't worry, she'll grow out of it, but it's just something that dogs do. ;)

Your doggy is being naughty, it must had watched your porns recently and learn some few new skills but it's unable to perform or it can't find any audience, hence it humps the air to show you how angry it's. ^^

Though your Dog is spayed, chemical secretions within the body cause chemical imbalances. It should pass!

All female dogs do this whether they are spayed, or not. I use to have a female German Shepherd do this, and she wasn't spayed.
