To those creationists who claim this, what do you think of "Project Steve"
It really makes a mockery of all those creationists who claim that scientists are turning away en masse from evolution :
Project Steve is a parody by the National Center for Science Education (NCSE). More specifically, it is a parody of creationist attempts to collect a list of scientists who "doubt evolution". The NCSE's list of scientists who "support evolution" only contains scientists named Stephen or variations thereof (Stephanie, Stefan, Esteban, etc.), thus representing about 1% of the total population. Despite this restriction, it is longer and contains more eminent scientists than any creationist list. The project was named in honor of the paleontologist Stephen Jay Gould.
Eminent scientists who are included in the "pro evolution list" include Stephen Hawking as well as both Nobel Prize winning Steves in science, Steven Chu and Steven Weinberg. The Steve-o-meter reads 744 Steves as of 8-6-06

Isn't humour the best way to deal with creationists ?
It's time we stopped taking them so seriously.
I wondeer how many will ignore the question in favour of a creationist rant .

"creation science" = oxymoron (look it up) It's scary that so many people apparently have absolutely no idea what is and is not science! The main thing creationists "falsely claim" is that what they are doing is science - which it most certainly is not - rather than their particular interpretation of religion, which they have every right to so long as they don't try to force it on other people's children in what should be a science class.
If you don't like science, please immediately abandon modern medicine (there's great medical advice in the Old Testament! and you always have faith healers to fall back on!) and all of the scientific and technological advances that make your life comfy. (Unplug that computer!)
PS I'm a follower of Jesus as well as a scientist. I'm just willing to use the brain God gave me for something other than keeping my ears separated.
PPS Thanks for telling me about Project Steve! LOL love it! Creationists would have executed Galileo for telling them the earth is not the center of the solar system.

Fundamentalist creationists who reject the teachings of major theologians such as the Pope and other religious scholars often try to build up the 'science case against evolution' in order to make their own views seem more rational. The issue here is one of insecurity, in that a creationist who wishes to dispell evolution is insecure in their own beliefs and faith, and feels that evolution is a challenge to these beliefs.
The truth is, that for anyone who believes in God (by any name or faith) should realize two things:
1) If they are so sure in their God and faith, why are they worrying about something that challenges it in any way? What, is God going to 'lose' that battle and be replaced by a chimpanzee?
2) The similarities between most creation stories and the theory of evolution are startling. Rather than being a play-by-play factual accounting, Genesis serves as a parable for creation, told in terms God's followers could understand at the time. I really get steamed over Creationists who see the value and presence of other parables (and not just idenitified ones) but fail to accept Genesis could also serve as such.

To answer your question, because they are so threatened by evolution and so desperate to believe it is not true that they will desperately jump on such delusions. Why are they so threatened? Because there is a seed of doubt within them about their belief in a literal reading of the bible.
I mean no disrespect to anyone. That's just the only way I can understand it. If someone firmly, 100% believed in creatonism, there would be no need for all the false claims and justifications.

I'm a creationist and I beleive that "Project Steve" is a bad idea, and perhaps uses deception to try and dismiss evolution.
I don't beleive your question is asking for a real answer, only provoking the masses. If you have a question about the science of creation, please ask

creationists are apparently slow in following science. ( Earlier church taught that earth was the center of the universe and all else revolved round it. etc etc.)
Only I hope we are not running in a big circle.

It looks to me that once again "mainstream science" is lying to us in an attempt to force their religion on the world.

It takes time. How long did it take for evolution to "catch on"? It will die out as more truth (facts) are revealed.
