the real question regards astronaughts. I think they either go by israel's time, or by the time of the place from where they left (but I'm not sure).

Mordecai Richler has a story - I forget which one now - that involves a group of Orthodox Jews who go north of the Arctic Circle and end up dying of starvation while fasting... :)
But I've asked some Muslims and apparently you're meant to observe sunup and sundown based on when it happens at that parallel but further south...

Don't they just do 12 hours day, 12 hours night to make it equal to a day etc otherwise it's unfair especially during months like Ramadhan you'd have people dying all the time.
you have to be sensible

the hours are calculated depending on the length of the day and night , then using this they find out the time of praying.
