Because fairies and unicorns don't have their own book written by a great man who, in today's society, would be locked up in a mental institute.

The God myth offers more than the fairy and unicorn myth. The God myth comes with a whole set of dictums that people can hold over another's head. When someone says, "I think you should act this way", it usually doesn't carry much weight. However, if someone says, "The god that created you and is watching you RIGHT NOW says HERE that you should act this way" it gives them much more clout. Many people are out to control others and many are looking to follow. It doesn't matter if what they're following is nonsense, as long as it is authoritative.

Because, after thousands of years of trying, Science hasn't yet convinced religious people that God doesn't exist. Whereas with fairies, unicorns, elves, trolls, etc there is reasonable evidence that they don't exist. The laboratory is a wonderful place but it is NOT spiritual. Perhaps scientists and skeptics should accept that they aren't clever enough yet to disprove or prove the existence of God and get on with their poor, empty secular existences.

Well, I don't know - can you PROVE that fairies and unicorns and dragons never existed? Any more than you can PROVE God doesn't exist?
You could argue that the occurance of fairies, unicorns and dragons in almost every culture gives evidence that they may have existed once, so if you choose to believe in these things I'm not gonna call you a nutter!
Similarly, there's enough empirical evidence that God exists to convince me until I'm given solid proof otherwise.

people find that they need to believe that is more than this life it is proven psychological that if a human has no hope that they then become severely depressed and most suicide. there is one reason another is brainwash and manipulation fear the list can go on forever many people believe in god for many different reasons. as children we are told that Santa is real and then as we grow older we are told oh well son/daughter we lied to about Santa so therefore we lose faith in fairy tales because innocence has been taken from us by those that wish to deceive their children. by the way fairies and unicorns are real. their soul does not reside on this plane of perception. have you ever heard of the astral plane? well there are many of many of planes that you could not even begin to realize and the of yasheua the Jewish name for jesus Mary's son is still in this plane and i know where it is but i am sworn to secrecy on this.

Back in the old world, we needed something to explain how we got here and this thoughts stayed a long time and many many people had them. These thoughts were passed down from generation to generation and spread with wars and travelers so now we end up with people thinking there is a god(s) when there is no actual proof of the existence. Maybe some people have noticed it and those how never will are most likely idiots no offence to christians who really belief in that stuff.

I think a lot of people take the fact that the bible has predicted a lot of things that have happened through out history and been fairly accurate and believe that if they can forsee all of these things then there must be a god, I really don't know, I don't believe in god myself and I honestly don't know why anyone would believe in god, it seems rather absurd actually to me, anyways no one will ever have proof of his existence so what difference does it make?

As humans go, we all have a belief system that coincides with our religious, or non-religious backgrounds.
Some believe that to believe in "fairytale" caricatures would redefine their understanding of say, the bible.
Others, believe that with a perfect " creator ", that anything is possible, and the only impossible thing is for the possible to be impossible.
That said, to try and figure out why another believes, or does not believe, takes away from your life, the reason for your own belief.
Do not let anothers reasons take away from your own.

Although you conclude that they are a "myth", I don't necessarily disbelieve in fairies and unicorns...it's just that the evidence is inconclusive. Also, the existence or non-existence of fairies and unicorns wouldn't effect in either way, at least in any significant manner, the quality or purpose of my life.
There's ample logical, scientific, literary, and traditional evidence and history for me to believe in God. My disbelief in God...or the discovery that He in fact doesn't exist would effect my being...my entire purpose in life...in a major way.

Every culture through all of time has had a belief in a God and a Spirit world. I believe that there is a God, just not so sure he is a Christian God. The Earth minus "Mans" work is too perfect for just a happening.
If one believes than there is.
